Our route, 13 years on the trot for our group (my 11th) and still enjoyable.

On leaving the eurotunnel terminal follow A16 direction Boulogne / Le Touquet
At Abbeville follow A28 direction Rouen
At Junction 11 follow A29 direction Le Havre
At Junction 9 follow N29 direction Yvetot
Follow signs for Pont de Brotonne and onto Bourg-Achard – Turn right at traffic lights and park up 100 yards on left. (STOP here for lunch)
Continue towards Bourgtheroulde turning right and following signs for Le Neubourg.
Continue onto Conches-en-Ouche, Breteuil and Verneuil-sur-Avre on D840
Then follow signs to Mortagne & Alencon N12
Come off N12 at 2nd turning for Mortagne-au-Perche and then look for signs to Belleme where we STOP prior to heading to Le Mans.
Follow signs for Bonnetable & Le Mans D938
Just after Savigne L’Eveque take 1st exit on roundabout D20 Change
This feeds onto D323 heading towards Le Mans. Come off at junction signed Circuit Des 24 Heures

Some lovely little villages and friendly locals always wave.

A16 Calais -> Abbeville
D901 Abbeville -> Marseille-en-Beauvaisis
D930 M-en-B -> Gournay-en-Bray
D916/D316 G-en-B -> Les Andelys (lunch)
D316 Les Andelys -> Evreux
D830/930 Evreux -> L'Aigle
D930/938/301 L'Aigle -> Savigne-l'Eveque
D20BIS S-l'E -> D323, stopping when you see the circuit.

Takes about 7hr, with a 30min lunch stop so a couple of of hours slower than motorway but no police, no speed cameras, and generally empty roads with bends in them!

I'm travelling from Ireland into Rosscoff. Think we might head to Mont St Michel for a stop off. Would be nice to take the back roads to Le Mans, anyone familar with this route?

If you are arriving at Cherbourg, Le Havre or Caen, have a look at the route down through Domfront, Ambrieres les Vallees and Mayenne to Le Mans.
Nice easy roads and pleasant scenery.

Enjoy it which ever route you take.

I just wanted to say thanks, this is the route we followed. Nice roads, not one Gendarme and virtually no traffic. smile

No issues going through on Wednesday or Sunday, although the speed limit through the tunnel is now 70 kmh.
