Despite being on PH for well over 10 years, and numerous trips to Nurburg etc I have never done Le Mans before until this year.

I'd be grateful for advice from PHers who have been.

Thinking of going Thursday lunch ferry to Calais, and coming back Monday afternoon.

Staying on Houx camp site with 25 others from a car club, we are also taking a transit with marquee, gas bbq's, fridges, generators, large tv etc.

Any tips welcome, or links, don't even know what times anything is on smile

By the sounds of it your club is very organised, so you wont have any problem on the campsite just remember to lock any valuables in your car and don't leave anything lying around in your tent even when you are asleep in it. .
If your getting a lunch ferry on the Thursday your going to arrive late on Thursday night so your going to miss just about all of the qualifying, which finishes at midnight.
As your with a large group and by the sounds of it they are Le mans veterans they will know the routine and schedule of the weekend, just soak it all up and enjoy the weekend.
By Monday you'll want to be back next year and you will have the knowledge of the place and the way you would want to experience it next year.

The Club Arnage guide is due out soon

Le Mans For Dummies it used to be called

They have a kind of press release which might be a help

They provide it free but do have a charity fund they maintain, if you wish to donate

Info at Club Arnage http://www.clubarnage.com/forum/index.php?board=1.... , their release reads

"Going to Le Mans in 2016?

The Club Arnage Guide to Le Mans is one of the most complete and comprehensive guides available.

It's made by 24h fans for fans.

It's published every year with up to date information on teams, cars and drivers as well as the history of the race, the regulations, and the circuit.

2016 will be our 11th issue.

The 2016 Club Arnage Guide isn't available to download yet, we are still creating it, but it will be from Saturday 11th June.

In the meantime, if you are planning a visit this year, download and enjoy the 2015 guide, and update it to the 2016 Guide in a few short weeks time.

See you at Le Mans!

Club Arnage"

I downloaded last year's one, it was excellent

I would not arrive on Thursday night unless you can help it as many roads will be closed due to qualifying, and you will want to watch qually as well i expect.

If poss get a ferry or tunnel crossing around 10.00am latest as it is 5 hours with a gentle journey to Le Mans with stops for wee wees.

Scottie,

1 - take a bike, if you can. Done LM 5 times, best time was with a bike. Don't take a nice one, always a (small) risk of losing anything that goes to LM.

2 - Mad friday isn't what it used to be. even 5 years ago, it was people showing off in front of a crowd. last 2 years have been a crod intimidating people in cars. On the flip side, LM town on friday is ace. Walk up from Houx exit to the tram, straight in, and find a bar in the middle.

3 - Fancy dress is a must. The banter is great.

4 - Brin immodium.

5 - If you're in the middle of Houx, the yellow block of peril is an exprience you must all try. Aim for the busyest time for the best stife / humidity combo. Once you've experienced it, use the other loos near the entrances. They're far less memorable.

6 - Dunlop (out) Dunlop (in), tertre rouge (in), terte rouge (out), straight finish straight (out), karting nord (in), just past karting nord (in). All mandatory. Esp. if on bike, get down to arnage / indy - but do it at the dead of night. The sunrise at Arnage is the best thing I've ever experinced at LM (inc sunrise at Dunlop). Make sure you see it all. During Quali, the grandstands inside the track at S/F straight are open. Go see (and hear) the Corvettes and Astons. You'll never forget it.

7 - Sweepstake / team game:

It's a 24h race. Tellies are there, but spread out; radio on all the time, but it's a lot of info.
Among your team (dependant on size), do a sweepstake for winner of P1 / P2 / Pro / Am. Between you, you'll almost automatically know how the whole race is going - you'll know where "your" car is, who is in front, and who is behind. A quick conflab and you almsot have live timing. Ths was one of the biggest breakthroughs for our team - instead of 2 keen fans and 4 casuals, we had 6 keen fans instantly.

8 - Mingle. I have several real life friends, and more annual friends that I've met at le mans. It's amazing how sociable the whole thing is. Of course, more fancy dress helps here.

9 - Sun cream

10 - Rain jacket.

So gutted to be missing this year. On the plus side, I'm getting a child in compensation - everything else is negative tho. Please yell abuse at the Fords / cheer if they break on my behalf =)

as said elsewhere the club Arnage guide is a must,

also be prepared to be under its spell, once you have been, every June will then mean you just have to go back,my first Le Mans was 1979,missed 3 or 4 since then but it draws you back it is just so special,.....a beer at 2 in the morning at Tetre Rouge bar with the cars going just above you, the noise as they start another charge down the Mulsanne straight....,sunrise at Arnage, or the end of the Mulsanne at sunset there are just so many things to experience, just go with the flow,if you don't get everything done it doesnt matter you WILL be back to do those things next year

Www.beermountain.co.uk. Has everything you will need to know about Le Mans.

Friday morning British welcome st saturnin is a must over 300 cars on show. Pit walk Friday afternoon. Le Mans town centre Friday night is a must. Take the tram from near circuit into town centre.

Always plenty to do. You will be back again I'm sure next year.
Have fun

+1 for St. Saturnin. Really good to have a nose around. Get there early!

• Super U in Arnage is good for breakfast and a decent bog - although the latter gets a lot of use. The seat is always warm.

• Virage d'Arnage at night to watch those discs glowing.

• Bumper cars up by the Dunlop bridge. Priceless.

I've got to agree! We were on there a few years ago and somehow we managed to flip a kart off the track into the middle pit. Fortunately it was an empty parked up kart. I was driving one handed and videoing in the other until I got T boned and the battery fell out.

During the race at least yes, though gets very busy around the start/end of the race and not always the most frequent in the early hours. There's a route map in the Club Arnage guide but they run in loops from the corner of the car park opposite the main entrance via a stop around Beausjour before heading off to Arnage, Mulsanne and back to the main entrance.
