To those that have been to the Classic Le Mans before....
We usually got to the 24 hours.

What is the etiquette for the Classic?

It will hopefully be too warm for the sort of gear you would wear at the Goodwood Revival.
Stickers on the car - probably not.
Clothing - smart shorts OK? - I hate long trousers in the summer.
We will not be camping, staying in town. It is just the track time I need the advice for.

theres meant to be a smart casual dress code, although not many seem to adhere to it,i generally do just shirt and trousers, but still loads in T shirt shorts,i think also when it is really hot everyone just does there own thing......you dont feel underdressed as you would at Goodwood.

stickers .....as you say, probably not!

Only need to follow the dress code if you want to visit the paddocks. Otherwise it's up to you. But the paddocks are at least 25% of why you visit this event?

Thanks for the information regarding the pits.

I have attended 4 Classics and pretty well always dressed the same for the paddocks and never been questioned, although I have seen people turned away.
Weather permitting, I wear smart shorts, polo and trainers.
Some that I have seen turned away have patterned or lairy shorts, flip flops, brightly patterned tee shirts and er, always a good topic of conversation, tattoos.
I own all of the above including tattoos but don't have them visible.
That's my experience anyway. Good luck.

Have to agree with the above.
We dress for the weather, and have never had an issue.
While I like the idea of 'dressing in period', it just never seems to work at Classic Le Mans - and as we drive 7's I'm not sure it would work for us (especially when the weather is either blooming hot or raining).

Last Classic we wore these...

This is my eighth Classic, and for the last three we press members have been encouraged to wear smart/casual. 2014 was not nice weather so trousers were in order, but for the rest a scruffy t-shirt and comfortable shoes. If hot, t-shirt, shorts and not an eye was blinked. Please do not compare this event with Goodwood, since the French won't and don't give a damn. Golf is played in jeans and tshirt as standard wear unless you are a team member, so why not be comfortable for motor racing?

Was turned away in smart shorts and polo in 2010, went back to car and threw a pair of pants on. Always just wore very light pants since. So not had an issue. You could always use the zip off type and put them on if you get turned away.

May be I just met a very official type gatekeeper that year???

Have never been stopped or anything near it in the last 6 visits to the classic, always tend to wear smarter shorts and a proper shirt(short sleeved) and usually sandals

Off topic, but has anyone any idea s to which grid they are starting with this year? I can't find out at all. For the first six events it was 1 to 6 in that order, then they changed it. Now we also have the Group C cars to cope with. I need the information since my photography is based purely around 2,3 and 4.

So a pair of chinos over the shorts to get in then strip down to the shorts once inside!!!

We will see what the weather brings.

I only use tee shirts for added warmth in the winter as first layer so it will be short sleeved shirt and shorts are smart.

More fuss about Le Mans Classic dress code than any other function I will attend this year.

Thanks for the info chaps.

I've only ever worn smart shorts and t-shirts and have never had an issue (even on the times when I have sneaked into the pit lane...)

No room in my car for smart clothing, and it's too bloody hot anyway (or too wet)

Isn't this the running order from 2014 as there's no mention of the Group C?

Yup, and as always I'm wrong - again. But, I repeat, nowhere can I find details of the running order for 2016. I'll ring the press office tomorrow.
