Annual question...... German Eurosport
Discussion
Just read a couple of old threads and wondered if anything has changed and your thoughts please on what's best.
We have an 80cm x 60cm oval dish and LMB
A Sky box WITHOUT a card
A Freesat box
A freeview box
We would like to use the Sky box but not sure if it will work without a card. What's the verdict ?

Copied from Beermountain:
"The German channels are at 19.2 E. A uk sky box will not work for these, as sky boxes software is locked down pretty tight. A generic none sky box should, and some freesat boxes. Eurosport is available here in German for free."
We use one of these, worked great last year: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Openbox-V8S-Digital-TV-S...

So this should be compatible with our 18cm dish and LMB ?"The German channels are at 19.2 E. A uk sky box will not work for these, as sky boxes software is locked down pretty tight. A generic none sky box should, and some freesat boxes. Eurosport is available here in German for free."

I would suggest a 60cm to 80 cm dish. Pointed to 19.2E, German Eurosport is still Free to View. I was watching it yesterday as part of my pre-Le Mans testing.
I have not tried it with a Sky Receiver, but have tested it on a regular Satellite receiver and my TV that also can receive tune in directly from Astra 1L

First year for our group using satellite - I'm no expert but that does seem a bit small for a dish. We're taking a sky dish (about 600mm wide?) to plug into a sky box. I figured that's the set up at home, so would work in a (not too) foreign field. We have a card with sky sports so should be able to get English Eurosport on't tellybox no problem. Fingers crossed...

wtf! a dish is a dish. If it has a connector like this it'll work: http://nicab.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/coax...This is the dish i have: http://www.techdna.co.uk/ross-sd-satellite-kit.htm...

the footprint for Astra 19.2 is 60cm and that covers most of EU and all of UK & Ireland... I have a 60cm dish...with double LNB for Astra 19.2 & 29 on the one dish.... running through an SF118 Octagon receiver... I get all the EU motorsport on various channels here in Blighty....so you'll have no issues in France

I'm living proof they don't, unless i imagined watching German Eurosport outside my tent last year ;-)
I don't understand the difference TBH. Both companies told me the Openbox will only work with a SKY Dish. The one I have is oval like the photo here. What type / shape / size dish did you use please ?We have this exact dish, it works fine: http://www.techdna.co.uk/ross-sd-satellite-kit.htm...
OpenBox used to be sold as SKYbox until Murdoch forced them to name change them....and they adopted OpenBox (who also make satellite kit)..... they work with any dish not just Sky oval's..... if you are taking a Sky oval and an OpenBox... then you will be fine...when you are "locked" on to 19.2
