Does everyone struggle finding signal down there? I tried to get my set-up working yesterday, but after a few hours of trying to get signal I had to give up and sulk for the rest of the night. Still in a mood now. I have an old sky dish and hd box - I only have 1 co-ax from the LNB to the box but I think that's all I need? F-connectors are fine. I aligned the dish with my neighbours' one but still got nothing. Is it a matter of really carefully adjusting the dish until a signal turns up? I remember setting up a UHF aerial in my attic in a few minutes with no trouble. I'm guessing the dish makes you work harder for results?

Satellites dishes have to be much much more specifically aligned compared to a UHF aerial. The trick I found last year was use a sky box to find the uk satellite (thats all a sky box will find) and then 19.2E is right a cm and up a cm (movement on the dish)

Worked for me anyway.

We used a freesat box last year and had a bit of a mare trying to find the satellite.

Eventually we found it using a Sky box to find the Sky satellite, then switched over to the freesat box and moved the dish right a bit then up a bit.
Can you get the signal with the Sky box WITHOUT a Sky card ?

We always take a sky box without a card to watch the free UK channels when we're not watching german eurosport on the freesat system.

Go into the set up page of the sky box and it will give you signal strength and quality readings while you're aiming at the satellites. Although it will time out after a while which can be annoying!

Tried to get a signal yesterday with a 80cm x 60cm dish, a Sky HD box without a card and a FreeSat box. Got fk-all. We will take it all including a satellite finder thing to LMS and hope for the best. We will be on the Houx so if you see someone smashing up a sky box, its us.

Pretty much mirrors our experience. Though, in our defence, we were trying to align ours out of a third floor window...
If you spot a satellite dish being kicked to death on the roof of a white Mercedes Sprinter on Houx, be sure to come and say hi.

I must admit, it did stress me out a bit last year as it was my first time doing it. Exact positioning is necessary, 1 cm out can be the difference between it working or not. It's fiddly but worth it when it's up and running.

Also..... remember you're not the only ones with a dish, if your having issues look for the nearest neighbors with a dish and ask for help, you'll mostly get a friendly hand in exchange for a beer.

UK box and UK card will work, after all Sky does not know you have removed it from the UK.

And don't be afraid to ask. The main issue I suspect is elevation, as the Astra 1L satellite does require maximum angle from memory. You also need a clear site, so if there are trees or a building in the way, you need to move the dish.

This year, mine will be on top of the motorhome, so hopefully, not going to be an issue.

Good Luck.
