We were off to St Jean de Monts - it's a lovely part of the world, but not going to risk getting stranded - don't see the situation getting better over the next few days. Even if we get off the Tunnel with a full tank and a Jerry can, we won't get all the way without refuelling. If we can't refuel, what then?!

Interesting post.l Where were you heading? I am due to be catching a ferry to St Malo on Thursday night and heading down to the Loire valley for a long weekend over the bank holiday. The English owners at the hotel are saying there's not too much of a problem but then I read of your input and Lowdrag earlier having difficulties and I am having second thoughts. There seems to be very little real-time information, most of the news reports are 12 hours old.
,
As posted a few lines up the map on this page is said to be Real Time

http://www.lefigaro.fr/economie/le-scan-eco/dessou...
You need to give it a little time to load. It looked fairly accurate tonight near where i live
There is an App called Essence that appears to be the sorce of the map but not tried that

And to think I have been winding up the Tesla driver in our group that most likely has to route via Paris/the Periperique for an IKEA car park supercharger. He might yet have the last laugh...
Help is at hand to recover your equilibrium! Le Monde announces that today 16 nuclear power stations are striking. Power cuts have already happened in parts of France. So that's interesting, because petrol pumps won't work without power will they? Today is supposed to be the biggest strike yet, and I see that Brittany Ferries have cancelled sailings to and from Le Havre for three days. I have put a brick under the accelerator so I can get to the bar for my coffee. The railways are on strike too but it depends which side you listen to as to whether some services are running. Interestingly, there are a few apps which will keep you up to date in your area. This is in French, but gives you a selection:-

Have a nice day.

Le Figaro today are confirming that the government will not allow refineries to be blockaded.

France may be arriving at its miners strike moment in history, but cancelling your holiday is probably unnecessary.

20% of service stations may be closed, but 80% are open. It is not a big deal really, provided you are aware and prepared.

Miners strike back in the 80's lasted 7 or 8 months if I remember correctly, i really do hope they have this sorted within the next couple weeks.
If not we could be seeing lots more mundane diesel cars being taken to Le Mans rather than gas guzzlers and sports exotica. Its the French economy that,s going to suffer.

hope they get it sorted soonfurious

I was thinking when i read aout the power stations - isn't is a good job that Maggie broke the unions?

Right now in France, it seems that 3% of the population have power over the whole country. That's not right.

Can't you just stick a couple of jerry cans in the caravan?

We're off to Normandy on Saturday and then on to Britanny on Tuesday. If I brim it in Dover i should have enough to make it to the first siblu campsite with enough diesel left for a bit of sight seeing and time to find more.

My main worry is that they are also blockading the bridges around the Normandy

Hush.

This is not a thread for reason and sense. This is a thread for people to fret unnecessarily (in public), and tell everyone how short their car's range is.

My Focus ST wouldn't even make it on at a tank unless I drove at 55. 275 mile range at 80 mph.
I thought the Focus had a 10 Gallon tank? If so, and you brim it at Dover and drive at 80mph (as you mention above), you'll be absolutely fine. If my 4.3L V8 can even manage >27mpg on a run at 70-80, I'm sure a 2L 4cyl should be fine.
A the risk of going a bit further OT, it was 2.5 5cyl turbo. At 80 the computer would show about 28mpg ish.
In which case, you've got the larger 12 Gallon tank. Meaning that you should make it comfortably on a single tank.

The various map-tools people posted do show quite a few are out of petrol though.. an open station is no good if they dont have anything to put in my tank

Oi! Are you calling me a caravanner!

We were going to a holiday camp (static caravans) but not towing. Was due to go in the Evoque. Realistically, range loaded up and with roof box wouldn't be much over 300 miles before panic sets in - we have about 450 miles to do from Eurotunnel terminal at Coquelles. I've bought a 20l jerry can, but in reality that could be a one time use - a lot of garages are not allowing jerry cans to be filled, as this encourages even more hoarding of fuel.

As Eurotunnel and Siblu are being very reasonable in their approach ro re-booking, we'll try again in the summer hols. In the meantime we've booked a few nights away in Dorset next week. I shall be burning my beret in a quiet protest...

I hope anyone that does decide to go has a good time ;-)

My parents tell me that in Normandy where they live, turning up in an English registered car and pretending not to speak the language at a petrol station works well when in need of a full tank. Even easier if you're buying petrol rather than heating oil.

Seriously though, as was suggested would happen earlier in this thread, the panic buying has slowed down and apart from the limits being placed on volume purchase, there is fuel available at all their local outlets.

You keep labouring this point, but theoretically if we assume you can't get fuel in France (big assumption I know) your car would need to have a 520mile (at least) range. I don't think this is a thread of people showing off as to how short their cars range is, but just concerned petrol heads with varying interesting cars, many of which can't go 520miles on a tank, which IMHO isn't that unreasonable.

The facts are that the situation has continued to get worse not better this week, especially with other sectors being hit like train drivers and power generation. Yes obviously we all hope it's over by then but there's no harm in speculating seeing as a large part of the LM forums revolves around speculation (see weather thread which is far less precise and long range than this thread).

What side of the water do the ferries fill up?

Wonder if Le Shuttle will still run if the power stations on the French side stop producing.
