In which case, you've got the larger 12 Gallon tank. Meaning that you should make it comfortably on a single tank.
You keep labouring this point, but theoretically if we assume you can't get fuel in France (big assumption I know) your car would need to have a 520mile (at least) range. I don't think this is a thread of people showing off as to how short their cars range is, but just concerned petrol heads with varying interesting cars, many of which can't go 520miles on a tank, which IMHO isn't that unreasonable.

The facts are that the situation has continued to get worse not better this week, especially with other sectors being hit like train drivers and power generation. Yes obviously we all hope it's over by then but there's no harm in speculating seeing as a large part of the LM forums revolves around speculation (see weather thread which is far less precise and long range than this thread).
A bit less flapping and a bit more slightly more mature thinking would stop any worries. I don't understand why people on this thread seem to want to doom-monger as if Le Mans is happening tomorrow.

France, a country which has suffered its fair share of maladies over the past 12 months, is on the cusp of hosting a major, global sporting event (I refer to the Euro football). This is exactly the kind of pick-me-up that the (football-mad, and potential contender) country needs, following this fairly horrendous period.

Hollande, perhaps France's least popular post-war leader and all-round simpering lefty, is only ever going to bow down to the unions eventually. He knows that he has no choice (as have/do most lefty French leaders) for his own popularity's/party's sake, and the country can't possibly risk the damage that would occur by spoiling the only major event likely to happen in 2016 (the Euro football).

There is NO WAY IN HELL that the fuel shortages and strikes will last for more than a week or so. They will come to an agreement, and all this will be water under the bridge. Le Mans will not be affected.

Could everyone please just lighten up.

Haha Guy...they mean the Lupo 3L. There was a story about Renault getting wind that VW were to build a "3L Lupo" and that's how the Clio V6 came about. Not sure about that one though!

I made that trip at least three times a year for the 7 or so years I owned the car, if I went at 130kph all the way, the light would come on not far past Alencon. Maybe I could make it on fumes from there but the palms would be getting a bit sweaty. I think, but don't know, the bigger tank was only fitted to the RS, not the ST, as one of the well known ST tuning gurus told me they could look to fit an RS tank for more range. They had one about from an RS 4x4 conversion project. Anyway, we may have to agree to disagree on this one smile

If this does continue, and I guess would only apply to the open sites without security, fuel theft could be an issue.

You mean those unmanned sites that require you to scan a debit/credit card before you fill up?

I think this guy missread the "lighten" as "light"

Anyways, people aren't being pedantic. Range on a full tank in a 320d is 530 miles. That's not even a "0.1% car". It's not PH being all whiney, it's people looking at your man maths and applying normal maths instead. Man maths is great, when you're backing up your own decision to do something. It makes perfect sense, and is why an RS4 was more sensible than a 2l TDi, when you think about it. Only problem with man maths is that it rarely stands up to much scrutiny =)

Of course we all hope it's gone and finished by next week - but I don't blame the posters who are moving holidays. Even if it's just a small disruption, who can be arsed with the stress when you're on your holidays?

Many of us thought they were utterly mad, but there's one bunch of PH'ers that are pretty much guaranteed to get there, regardless of the fuel crisis

RAC bloke on the radio earlier saying don't panic, don't cancel trips, there's plenty of fuel in most filling stations, possibly a little bit of a queue or a limit to what you can put in.

Sorry to bring some realism to the panic fest.

Hi everyone !

The situation here is actually not as bad as described in the news.

Petrol stations based on highways are open and you will find petrol without any problem. You just have to be prepared to wait 15-20 minutes to fill up. I've travelled from Nantes to Le Mans today and I haven't seen any petrol stations closed.

In town it's more difficult. There are petrol stations closed or sometimes you can't spend more than 20 - 30 €. But you have to keep in mind that 50% of the petrol stations are working normally !

Yesterday both supermarkets near me were open and no queues, today one is closed but I'm passing tomorrow and would not be surprised to see it open.
Apparently they have 4 months reserve it's just demand that's creating the shortage.
Everybody who buys 20€ a week is now filling up in case they run out

Clearly the Dunkirk spirit is long gone.

Just to add - at no time has any service station on the Autoroutes been without fuel. They are a priority for those travelling long distances

You know, I'm pleased I started this thread if only for the grin factor. Lighten up folks, we are only just over a week from test day and a couple of weeks from when you all arrive. In our hearts are are pretty sure things will sort themselves out but it is great fun thinking about the alternatives. I went past the local petrol station and there wasn't one person in it. Things are going back to normal so boring. No more to talk about but the weather. Come to think about it, where is the annual weather thread? Someone should start it ASAP or else it will be too late. Must close since it is 10.30 and I must clandestinely go out and fill the two jerry cans for the mower. Totally illegally of course.

The weather one is already there http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=25&t=1584077 .

if it rains I'll use more fuel (lights, wipers on, greater rolling resistance), if it's hot I'll use more fuel (aircon will be on).. I'm going to need 2 jerry cans!!

I still have a full-ish jerry can from last year - I will need to mow the bloody grass loads now to use that stale stuff up, just to refill it not to need it... harrumph

Maybe we should send a tanker load from the UK to roughly half way from Calaise to Le Mans. Brits paying in sterling would get a fill up.

Come on. Things always get a bit silly when these things kick off and the press blow things out of proportion.

How bad can it be!!!!

It wasn't that long ago, that only autoroute stations were open on a Sunday.
As you might recall, there wasn't an autoroute for a good chunk of the journey to Le Mans.
We used to bike it down and leave on Sunday for an overnight in Rouen.
With 100 mile range on some of the bikes, It became a little like Mad Max sometimes, hunting down the fuel. Even the card pay pumps, would only accept French cards.
We'll cope!
