Anyone know if you can convert a V10 engine to run on Red Wine?

Le Mans is ~270 miles from Calais, which should mean that even the most thirsty of cars should make it on a tank (assuming you refuel before the ferry). Then we can all sit in the sun and wait for the fuss (and burning livestock) to blow over.

Bloody commies.
Just trying to work out what my 5L mustang will do if I trickle along at 60mph.

13 gallons at 20mpg - think I will need to walk last 10 miles.

Just wondering how many jerry cans I can fit in the boot.....

Ah, the little known Lafite conversion! One to be much appreciated, the exhaust aroma of blackberry with a subtle hint of gooseberry. One for the connoisseur this, and Jacques used it to good effect. Expensive though.

Does anyone know what the rules are regarding carrying Jerrycans in France? I can't find anything saying there's a restriction, but I've read people on Faceache saying there is a 5L limit, and has been since November. Any truth in that?

Eurotunnel will let you take 30L in the boot, so that's problem solved for me, but I don't wanna get tugged and fined a million dollars by some bent French co with a card machine in his pocket!

Cheers

I'm not putting a jerry can in the boot of a Sagaris. Just no!

I'm going to run the risk and try to top up every half tank or so...

You think the bit of fibreglass between you and the big jerrycan fitted as standard will make much of a difference then? tongue out

My Focus ST wouldn't even make it on at a tank unless I drove at 55. 275 mile range at 80 mph.
I thought the Focus had a 10 Gallon tank? If so, and you brim it at Dover and drive at 80mph (as you mention above), you'll be absolutely fine. If my 4.3L V8 can even manage >27mpg on a run at 70-80, I'm sure a 2L 4cyl should be fine.

Really? Griff 500 with a 10 gallon tank (approx.) at 20mpg means a range of 200 miles.
The Griffith 500 has a 12/13 Gallon tank (depending on where you read). Anything over 20mpg, which I am sure isn't impossible, and you wouldn't have any issues.

Anyway, this is all academic, and completely unnecessary worry. I'm sure everything will be absolutely fine. However, those of a nervous disposition can be secure in the knowledge that a Dover fill-up will see them home and dry.

I don't think anyone is really worrying about this, to be honest. Or at least I hope not.

It's just the annual commie sabre-rattling from the French Unions, intended to grab the attention of the public/press approaching peak holiday season. They have a bash at it every year, almost without fail.

I buy your logic above but that just gets you to LM. If I brimmed my tank in Folkestone and then hypermiled at 60mph I might just just make it to LM, then with 300-400,000 petrolheads there if there is any kind of fuel shortage then I'm sure LM will be hit badly, joking aside how would I get back. There are lots of people with far more supercars than mine that won't even make it to LM let alone back were a fuel crisis to be in full swing. I have a diesel alternative plan but many may not.

As has been said this could be much a do about nothing or it could be a serious problem for many.

Yes but having owned the car for 17 years and driven it all over Europe I consider 200 miles between fills as the range (220 at a stretch but that's squeaky bum time). As Kimi would say "I know what I'm doing" hehe

Not sure your "if my car can do X, yours can do y" is reliable enough to assume you'll be reet! I have a 4.2 v8. That's smaller than yours. I've never seen 27 on a run. Not once, ever. In 4 years. Personal record is 25, on a long motorway trip.
French autoroutes are 90mph, rather than 70. My car would be looking at 21-22 for that.

Any ways, it should all blow over before then. If it doesn't, I'm guessing the Gendarmes will have to find another source of funding for their Christmas do this year, with the Brits being sensible for once!

The reports are of fuel shortages, not that there isn't a drop left anywhere in France. The key will be to take a sensible approach and brim your tank when you can as you get into Le Mans, maybe take a slight detour and come into town a different way to all the other Le Mans visitors heading down from the ports. There will be supermarkets and garages with fuel, but you may just need to via off the main routes to find it.

Lol I am an Elise supercharged with a 35litre tank is not ideal for this think it has the potential to wreck the trip for many such as sticking on the motorways rather than the fun drive down, like many have said getting the fuel for the way back in and around lemans could be a stress on holiday I don't fancy as for British welcome.......
