Just looking for suggestions of where to camp in the camper van on Monday night near Portsmouth and Sunday night near Caen as we are getting the early morning ferry on Tuesday and the following Monday

Many thanks!

As far away from the ferry ports as your fuel will carry you.

There is an aire de service in ouistrium by the ferry. Could be busy on Sunday night though. Sometimes you can stop over at the terminal.

We can probably drive straight to the ferry early on Tuesday morning but we are planning on getting most of the way to Caen on Sunday night to avoid an early Monday getaway.

Caen port is ok. I'd be careful about any Aire's though as often they are targeted by thieves. Some nasty stories involving gas as well. Would rather find a random street.

Caen isn't that far from LM so I'd personally just get up a bit earlier. Sure sunday will be an early night anyway!

We have stayed at this nice little site before - just a short hop to the ferry smile

Can anyone confirm whether or not you can stay in your motor home at portsmouth ferry terminal? I've heard conflicting stories, with some saying that you can park up in the ferry queue after the last ferry leaves. Thanks.

Drive 20m East along the coast from Caen and stay in the car-park at the 260 cinema in Arromanches - Great evening/morning views

We are just considering all options really. I find that there comes a point on Sunday night after the race that you just want to be on your way home. Even if its a couple of hours up the road, it's less to take on come Monday.

I see what you are saying, but you are rushing to Caen to wait for a ferry you will be on for 5 hours anyway. It's like hurry up and wait.

True enough. I suppose we will see how we feel on the day, we haven't done motor-homing before so its useful to know what options there are.

What campsite are you on? We are on Houx and aren't leaving until Monday. But we are getting the later ferry from Caen.
