Blimey! This escalated quickly.

Let's draw a line under this now as this is the Le Mans forum. It wasn't supposed to be political.

But I do think some of you need to apply some intelligence towards why there are refugee camps in Calais. That you think they would be there out of choice is very short sighted. These aren't economic migrants, that's a different issue. These are people who had to run away from a war zone and the rest of Europe is too fascist to be nice to them. It's pure luck we were born in Western Europe, luck doesn't make you a better person.

Any moderators out there can close my thread, cheers :-)

I appreciate both sides of these arguments. However, people could apply more intelligence to their posts.

I do have an opinion aswell. Supporting them will encourage them. I also do not wish to see any country lose its identity due to an influx of people with different cultures. I respect the cultures of other countries and visit these countries to enjoy their culture. However, I also choose which countries I visit. I do not like all cultures. Particularly those that are intolerant of women, democracy, gay people or the cultures of other countries.

I also think that if British people had behaved like this in 1914 or 1939 we would all be speaking either german or living in Canada (The likely refuge). If they have problems in their countries they should stay and sort them out. If that means fighting for survival, then fight they should. Not run away. Especially as we see that most are fighting age males.

Another point. Unaccompanied children in Calais? Don't believe it. How did they finance that journey without help? They would have lost any funds they had at the first people smuggler they met. My bet is they were abandoned. Don't want their parents in this country if that is there morality level.

Across all of Europe there are millions of them. Enough to overthrow ISIS or any other regime. They should go home and find the solution to there problems there.

Like others have said. Their behaviour in Calais has been far from acceptable. We should not encourage them.

I pity them their problems. But I cannot support them in this way.

By the way, just to be clear. My wife and I have volunteered to Foster one of those unaccompanied children. After all, they have no idea where home is anymore.

Is this the Fascist Europe our government is suggesting we stay in?

And no, the chappies at Calais are not all refugees from Syria.

Enjoy LM and bring your tent back for the British scouts. smile

Of course these people are economic migrants. Calais isn't exactly the first stop after crossing the Med is it? Unless these 'refugees' are getting an all expenses paid cruise off the UK government to Calais.

A massive "+1" to that.

In addition, the UK is providing much more in terms of foreign aid to the genuine refugees in official camps in Turkey and elsewhere in the region than any other European country, despite us not being the largest...yet we're still seen as "bad guys" by the left. I'd argue that we're actually doing more to help - and I mean really help - than Germany etc.

- If the original post had suggested giving the tents and / or equipment to the homeless (non-economic migrants) or sending it to the genuine refugees in Turkey etc., I'd be all for it.

putting all the political stuff aside, there is already an aid type organisation that goes round to the campsites on the monday and picks up left over equipment. They have red tabbards and I had one of my staff who is fluent in French check them out and they are fine. They may welcome a drop off around the circuit somewhere, but I can't remember the name of the organisation...

I think it's a noble idea. There's also people collecting tents to ship out to people across Europe.

PS Why do you think they want to come to UK? Say the UK had collapsed into chaos after 15 years of (inert your least favourite party here) rule... would you want to emigrate to Poland or Georgia? Or would you think screw that I'm heading for New Zealand, Canada, USA, or Australia as at least they speak the same language and are a bit more civilised. I be a lot of those migrants looking to come here speak better English than they do Slovak or Croatian. They've already had to leave home... why stop at he first country you come to which is a bit st and they don't understand you!? Not saying it's right or I approve, but I do have some empathy for their situation. Lost everything = don't really give a toss about some other counties immigration laws.

It is a noble and good idea.

However, watching the news the French authorities are trying to clear away the unhygienic camp sites and move the people into purpose built safe and clean units.

Dumping a lot of probably damp, used tents in a random area is not going to help the situation.

If people want to give tents away then maybe the French scouts? They normally have a campsite around the Tetre Rouge area where they stay for the litter picking exercise during the week.
