Chaps
Post on the Beermountain site. Motorhome stopped entering Tertre Rouge campsite, stewards demanded entry to the motorhome, searched it and confiscated all their booze, even though it was not in bottles.

What rule gives them the right to carry out searches like this?

Be warned. Any else had this experience?

By contrast, I'm on Bleu Sud and nothing apart from a ticket check. Must only be inside the circuit.

I'm on Houx with a caravan. Cursory glance in the Rangey boot, and same inside the van. No problem bringing in loads of beer.
Also, earlier bought 55 bottles of wine in Carrefour to take home. All in the boot of the Rangey, boot checked on way into Houx and once I explained it was to take back to UK, waved through.
I reckon it depends on who, where and what. As per usual with the French.

We were in Tetre Rouge and got stopped and told we couldn't bring bottles in. Made sure to clarify that we could bring cans in. Then we got stopped and told we couldn't bring booze in, full stop. We didn't stand for that though!

Fortunately we'd kept the one car's boot loaded with our bags so we took to placing booze at the back of the boot and then put the bags back in. Our driver says they did get close to uncovering a stash at one point though.

They even checked the roof box at one point!

BSJ a check which they said was for terrorists. No problem with booze, but it was hidden in the caravan. They wanted to check inside, but it was pissing down, they were stood in mud, and I told them they had to take off their boots and wet gear (outside) before I would let them in. They didn't bother.

Checked at entrance to Green car park, on race Sat - case of bottles they did not like much but let us in anyway, maybe it was my charm that did the trick, or maybe when I asked what they would like me to do with, they had no idea what to do, also the queue to the car park was right back to the main entrance road which might have had something to do with it !!

Whats all this about beer bans at LE Mans campsites?

LE Mans without beer is like Laurel without Hardy!

Is this new rules this year? Off to the Classic in a couple of weeks so would be good to know what the deal is.

Cheers

They had someone on the back gate of Houx checking for booze going in this year. Never seen that before.

We told him surely he meant glass bottles but he said no alcohol.

Then they sell sh*t beer inside the track for 7 a pint.

Anyone notice the increase in Kronenbourg bars this year? Funny that...

There was a bag of confiscated booze hanging off the gate at the Tetre Rouge entrance one evening.

I drove in and out of Tet Rouge several times Fri - Sun and no checks whatsoever. As it happens I didn't have any as I tend not to drink nowadays! smile

At Bleu Sud, like said above they did no checks (possibly cos we were heading for the Speedchills enclosure within), but it would not have mattered as the 1st time we left, they demanded the camping pass and scrawled a big X on it. When asked what was going on they said it was to record that we had already been checked, and would not be bothered again. Moral = if you are at all concerned, take the booze in the 2nd time you enter Bleu Sud.

I wondered what the X was for. Strange then that they put one on my ticket without checking in the car, or opening the cool box in clear view on the back seat (that was full of booze)!

Did anyone read the back of their ticket (in my defence I was waiting for the shower). Bringing glass bottles into the circuit = 2 year prison sentence and €15,000 fine. Jeez eek

We stuck to cans and didn't get checked on Thursday morning at Blue Nord.

On arrival tuesday we were stopped and they spotted some bottles, were were told that no glass bottles were allowed in, we then decanted the cider into a water bottle( emptied it first) then drank 3 bottles of beer each, had to leave the rest. after that hid any bottles we had in the car and got cans, we were stopped and asked everytime we came in at the enterance to the GE zone but no further problems. However the camp site had plenty of glass bottles so others managed to get plenty in. A word of warning to all on here if various dutch offer you cans of grolsch cannon be careful it is 12% and i can remember nothing further from that evening
