My son and I spent 900 miles together in the Dino traveling via Portsmouth. Stayed in Ibis at Le Mans. Spent Saturday andbSunday at races.

Loved this transport Larry for Ferrari

Some great cars - loved this Cobra

Dino was magnificent. Had a few starting problems and the light switch stalk came off!!

Great trip. Great memories for me and Finn to remember.

We passed the truck accident on the A28, wasn't too bad but clearly would have needed the southbound carriageway closed to get the truck back on its wheels - I was glad to get past before the closure but know how frustrating it must have been to be held up - just be grateful some French people will have pine for a while from the back of the truck eventually!!

Saw your car on the way home and couldn't figure what it was so thanks for the explanation - it looked great.

I believe you were in front of us on the ferry on Thursday night. Your car is stunning, burning a bit of oil by the looks of my minis fog light cover, near side bank as your car was the only one I was in that close of proximity to the exhausts on start up.

Nice pictures

Scotty.

Hi Scotty

Sorry about the fog lights I will have the possible burning of oil checked out - wonder if it is anything to do with my difficult starting issue? We had a lovely Triumph 2ltr in front of us that sounded awesome but didn't half full our car with gas!!! I guess that's what 40 year old cars do!! Hope you enjoyed the event too. Chris

Hi Chris

Not a problem it just wiped off, certainly worth a second check with a clean rag to confirm it is oil and not carbon build up, but it did seem like oil to me. Yes the joys of classic cars.

We worked out our final milage to be 1480 miles, I don't think I will be doing that again in minis, as much fun as it was the drive back was hard going. The event was fantastic, my second time but a first for my 3 friends who all enjoyed themselves.

I had a great time at Le Mans Classic because.......

Me and my boy did the Little Big Mans in his replica Porsche 935:

In the waiting area

On the grid waiting for the start

Then some other pictures of our evening and camp

4 years in the planning and building and a major commitment doing it but what a great weekend!

Little Big Mans looked terrific fun for the kids. What a great spectacle and I bet your boy will remember it forever Sealine. I thought the marshals did an amazing job of getting everyone organised and away. As they did for all the races with Le Mans starts. Great weekend.
Here is a snap of my mates C4 on fire on the way home near to Rennes. The only hiccup in an otherwise awesome weekend!

I also got stuck in the A28 lorry crash on my way down from Rotterdam, so arrived after 7pm (not too bad against some above, I know) having got off the boat at 8am. And then I had to put the tent up!
After that, it was all good. In fact, most of it was all epic.
I treated myself to a three day VIP ticket and made much use of the Jeeps/2CVs/and green vintage buses, not to mention the 2* Michelin lunch and dinner each day. Oh, and the unlimited free champagne. Met some really interesting people and took hundreds of awful photos and the occasional average one smile

Here are my photos of the Group C paddock at just after sunrise on Sunday: I (almost) had the place to myself.

And here’s the best of the rest.

What a great Le Mans Classic (yet again!), loved every minute of it. Highlights for me:

- Parking beside an Aston Zagato waiting for the ferry
- Drive down and meeting random people and cars, many of whom we had drinks with later during the weekend
- Arriving in Arnage for lunch on Thursday, and seeing a GT40 rocking around looking for a parking space
- Everything going on at the track throughout the weekend, especially seeing the GrpCs doing their thing. Very special!

All in all, a fantastic trip. And to all we met there, some of whom are probably PH-ers: Rod (Marcos owner) & Mark; "Bone" in his 500SL; the father and son in that lovely red Alfa Spider he'd owned for 33 years; "Indianapolis" Bob who'd owned three 962s in his time; the lads in the white Quattro; and many many others

If you haven't done the Classic yet, make sure to get down there in 2018. I'll be there again for sure!

Bang on.

I was only teasing with the Mazda comment. Lots of people go for the default "It is a dolled up MX5" so it is nice to correct them occassionally.

Equally, it is not a kit car. It was designed by me and the body work was bespoke hand crafted. It is the only car I have ever designed so I am pleased with the reaction I tend to get.

There is even a thriving replica business doing kit versions on my car now, but mine is the original.

It's a seriously nice looking car...nice job, you should be a car designer

I was caught up in the same A28 tailback. Just came over the brow before Neufchatel and it all came to a halt. Could see the road down the valley, up the other side and over the horizon, solid with vehicles. But, there was a Tiny Country Road across the A28 just ahead. In France, these often have 'service' roads, locked by chain link gates, but people started ascending the slope onto the TCR. I have no idea if someone broke the lock, of if they weren't locked, but I followed. At least I wouldn't cook in the un-airconditioned car.

Miss TomTom persisted in trying to take me back to the A28, so I resorted to map reading, and eventually found my way. Eight hours, but it would have been as long on the A28, and I would have cooked the car and me.

I just missed that escape road - they were opening it as I passed and I got stuck about half a mile up the road. I could see people heading up onto the bridge but couldn't get back to it frown

We made a decision this year that was clearly a lucky one. we went on the ferry to St.Malo instead and therefore missed the road blockage. Trip went really well with Nobles & TVr's in the group.
We had 1 dodgy alternator and 1 broken turbo vacuum pipe ! why oh why does the classic generate mechanical woes, I really don't know.
Loved the event, particularly camping on site and enjoying the village in the late evening and into the early hours.
Loved the ferry queue with all sorts of exotic vehicles
Best bit -- the company, a lovely bunch of 10 guys we went down together, many hadn't met before, all frineds now.

I went for the first time to the classic with scotty d in his mini and was blown away with the event. The road trip was such a buzz seeing everyone in all their different cars and giving each other a wee wave. We stayed in the bleu nord site and were welcomed by our very kind neighbours with a beer each. The facilities were spot on, I had a great v8 corvette alarm clock across from our tent too. Is there a better way to wake up? The main event was spectacular and I still don't think I saw everything. On the ferry back we had to wait from passengers from a stricken ferry in Caen and the E-types and one Lotus really didn't like it. Hopefully they didn't suffer too much damage on the ramp. All in an absolutely fantastic experience and one I hope to repeat in a couple of years or so with my '75 mini pick-up.

Also in Blue Nord which I thought was spot-on. Really nice bunch of TVR owning neighbours and even the site facilities were decent. The Classic is a great event which could be improved (a little) with the introduction of track-side catering / bars like the main 24hr event but overall Mrs S and I had a great trip. Using the over-night ferry from Portsmouth to Caen makes the whole run down from Newcastle much more relaxed and the roads on the French side are quiet and direct. I do miss the 'convoy' run down from the Northern ports but I certainly don't miss the hold-ups in Rouen.

Even the old Mexico ran (almost!) faultlessly other than a failed speedo and a flat battery on Sunday morning which was caused by the cooling fans running on from Saturdays heat and me leaving the door open...
