Hi all, a group of us have booked our tickets and camping, but we're undecided about whether to do a night or day crossing.
Thing is, I really enjoy the ferry crossing for the spectacle of seeing all the other nice cars doing the Le Mans trip.
I know a huge percentage must travel at night, but has it got the same atmosphere?
I did try to set up a poll, but it obviously hasn't worked!

I've only done an overnighter once and that was the troopship from Newhaven to Dieppe. I assume not a popular route and not a great deal to see.

Daytime to and from from Portsmouth has always been a real spectacle although cars disperse pretty quick on arrival in France. We're doing Poole/Cherbourg return next year for a change, will be interesting to see how that compares.

I'd like to hear too if the more popular night routes offer something different to see.

I always leave Wednesday, night arrive Thursday morning.
Nice safe drive down in daylight, also any problems easier to sort out during the day.I use the Plymouth route to Roscoff.

We've done the overnighter from Portsmouth to Caen over the last few years on the Wednesday and there's always a good atmosphere and plenty to see. We had a group last year dressed in Star Wars trooper outfits on the ferry and one dressed up as the Princess (albeit with beard). We always take the opportunity to have cabins on the overnighter so that we can sneak a last half decent nights' sleep before camping (sorry my wife says it's 'glamping') starts. We like the fact that the overnighter also gives us a full days' work before we leave although in reality I don't think I have done any work on the day we leave for the last few years wink

Thanks for the replies all.
I think we're going to be going Wednesday day now, so that should be good, as it's always impressive to see the huge range of awesome cars that roll on to the ferry.

It really set's up the whole trip for me.
Can't wait for it now!
