Evening folks. Finally making a trip over to do a few laps of the 'Ring this year with a few mates. Current itinerary looks a little like this -

Monday - Leeds-Dunkirk (10AM) - Lille - Reims
Tuesday - Reims -
Wednesday - Nurburgring
Thursday - Nurburgring - Cologne (late evening)
Friday - Cologne-Brussels
Saturday - Brussels-Bruges
Sunday - Bruges - Dunkirk (2PM) - Leeds

Are there any changes you would make to the trip or suggestions for alternatives? Looking for some good driving routes ideally.

If it were me I'd spend two full days at the 'Ring and possibly a little less time at Brussels not drop it. Bruges is lovely however.

The Pistenklause restaurant/guesthouse is nice and close to the track, and has an excellent motorsport themed restaurant, where the walls are signed by just about every racing driver in the world !

They do an epic steak on a stone where you cook it yourself at your tabel, plus as much beer and Nurburgring heroism stories as your liver will take !!!

It's owned by Sabine Schmitz, and there is always some interesting metalwork parked outside.

If you want a nice drive , head out to the Mosel valley for some great roads , about 40 miles away - some great old vineyards to visit and riverside restaurants.

Have done a few trips to Europe.
One time went to Nurburgring. Don't know how we managed it I managed to get into the 'new' circuit. Really funny.
We turned up early one morning, not knowing where to go. Drove up to a security gate and were promptly waved through. Drove up to another security gate and were, without question, waved through to to the Paddock. I was pretty impressed at the facilities- the Paddock was full of Ferraris, some race-prepped. I pretty much lost my bottle seeing all these people who obviously new what they were doing but I thought, well I've come this far and because I still thought I was in the Nordschleife I got out of the car to pay my 15DM (£5 - this was before the Euro) but the Marshalls were excitedly screaming at me & waving me onto the track. Then, just then through the entrance between the paddock & the pits I saw a flash of red & there was this wailing screaming banshee noise as a Ferrari V10 (F300 I think) at full chat went by, being driven by Luca Badoer. (Ferrari test driver)

When I finally got to speak to someone in charge it transpired what had happened; I had gatecrashed a meet of the German Ferrari Owners Club. Luca Badoer was there to give demonstration runs of the then current F1 car. And because my car was red and had some (vague) passing resemblance to a 1930's racing Alfa Romeo (AR 2900a) one of which had actually been run by Scuderia Ferrari, (Enzo Ferrari being the then team manager) obviously the gate people/marshalls thought I was part of the attractions. We all had a good laugh. Eventually.

I still have nightmares of thoughts of had I wandered onto the track, driving around at a nice steady 50 mph on a sighting lap, with my missus beside me and being overtaken - on a bend - by a F1 car going at 150mph. I'd have soiled myself. And I suspect Luca Badoer would have had a 1DM:1pfennig* moment coming around the track and seeing me wandering around, oblivious and without a care in the world whilst admiring the scenery.

Thanks for the replies folks, that Alfa is sublime.

Current amended plans look like this -

Monday - Leeds-Dunkirk (10AM) - Lille - Reims
Tuesday - GP track & Nurburgring
Wednesday - Sightseeing during the day- Nurburgring evening session
Thursday - More sightseeing in the day - Nurburgring evening session - Cologne
Friday - Cologne-Brussels
Saturday - Brussels-Bruges
Sunday - Bruges - Calais (2PM) - Leeds

More track time added on the Tuesday. Accomodation is sorted aside from the two nights at the track. Any suggestions of places to stay? We've gone for hostels for everywhere else that are all situated near secure looking car parks.

When are you going?

I'm staying in an apartment in Adenau this May so I will come back on that. The Forsthaus right next to the 'ring is superb however. It may now however be quite pricey.

Blau Eke is reasonably priced if you book in advance. However, I do not know about their parking situation.

I am going in May.

I am staying at Haus Sonja.

If you have the cash to splash I recommend the Lindner Hotel & Motorsport Centre. That was spot on in pretty much every way.
