How to view at Mulsanne straight
Discussion
This year will be my third, but I haven't yet viewed the cars on the Mulsaane straight
I know a large proportion of it is off-limits, but can anyone suggest a decent spot to get a view of the cars at speed (rather than just in the braking zone for Mulsanne corner
We're camping at PorscheCurves, and we'll have bikes with us, so a bit of a trek is ok to get to a decent spot - I'm guessing just before either chicane will be the most spectacular.
Is it better to try during Thursday night practice? Are the Gendarmes any less enthusiastic outside of the race?
Any suggestions welcome from the seasoned LM-goers

I don't know anywhere you can officially see cars at full chat, but you can pay to view from the Hotel Arbor which is just after the second chicane on Mulsanne.
Its on the outside of the track so it's not walking distance, but it is worth the drive IMHO.

Although this was my view from it's car park in August....
I have heard that these fast food places are open during the 24hr - KFC have in the past mentioned that the circuit can be seen - I cannot vouch for this.

If you want to see the cars at full chat - and without the risk of being chased by Les Flics - the viewing area down at Indianapolis/Arnage is your best bet.
Get into the top of the enclosure (Indianapolis) and you'll see them braking down from full chat to take the banked left hander. I think there was something said about them extending the spectator area back up towards Mulsanne Corner, but I've not been to that part of the track for a few years. If they have, it'll give you an even better view.
This bit of the circuit's actually the fastest now, so you'll have all the fun of the fair with glowing brake discs, flame-thrower exhausts and retina-annihilating headlights. It's also a damn bit handier if you're staying at the Porsche Curves.
Here's your route.
It'll take about half an hour's walk. Traffic on the road during the race can be atrocious, so you might want to consider leaving the bikes behind. Especially at night.

We went the Mulsanne Straight bar (pictured above) on the Sunday morning. For about 10e we get taken upstairs to a room where you could view back up Mulsanne and straight passed outside. We also nipped round the corner from the bar and spent a while behind the catch fencing with the orange army fully aware we were there. May change at night as I get the feeling this room was the lads bedroom.

They use that room for photographers as the window at the end has a stonking view of the cars approaching. Willing to bet they don't change it! Too lucrative I would think!!Gassing Station | Le Mans | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
