just seen a compnay that send you texts to your mobile throughout the race with the positions and news of retirements etc. Looks a good idea to me, and it all seems to be free as well, which is nice. Saves carrying my radio around all the time which is a pain, especially when full of champers!
Has anyone else used these chaps before?

Sorry yes:
www.unothescore.co.uk
My apologies.
I have signed up and they do say they are all free to get. I guess they are paid for by advertising?

Unless you are abroad, in which case the French mobile company charge you to receive the texts don't they?

From the Le Mans section of the website:

The greatest motor race in the world is now serviced by unothescore. Whether you are at La Sarthe or at home, sign up to receive race positions throughout the 24 hours direct to your mobile for FREE. We all know it is difficult to keep up to date during the entire 24 hours of the race, we will send you the hourly positions and results direct to your mobile phone, and it is FREE to receive both in the UK and France.

No. The foreign mobile companies charge you to SEND messages, but not to RECEIVE them...

yes as far as i know it is free to get texts abroad. As the comments above say it just costs you (loads??) to send from a UK phone when abroad.

You are right, it is all free to receive and damn handy too I reckon. Should keep me up to speed during the wee hours at Arnage as life becomes a noisy sleep deprived blur.

we at www.teamsquack.com fully endorse the service, nothing to do with any personal interest of course

yes it is all legit, have spoken to the guys behind it www.unothescore.co.uk, all well into LM which is always comendable. They have also been linked to www.Speedchills.com which is the quality set up from where we get our tickets. Well worth looking at for a comprehensive weekend at le mans.

All signed up but have a query. They asked me what my favourite football team was? What's football? Is that the game where men that look like women run around aimlessly after an inflated pigs bladder?

Not sure I really understand whats going on!

HA HA yes football, whats all that about? Well I am the chap behind unothescore and i was told about you lot talking about it and its great to hear and see. We are a new set up and are doing LM for the 1st time and yes it is all free for subscribers.

Any questions at all email me through my profile or ask here on the forum. The more PHers the merrier. This is a service which works through having people like you use it.

excellent, good luck for this, seems a good idea as it is free, how do you make your money then? These things usually earn via premium rate numbers don't they?

Thanks, yes text companies and things like big brother make their cash through you by using premium numbers, our service is free to you and paid for by advertising. Each text will carry a relevant ad, small enough leaving space for the position reports.

It will not cost you as you only receive texts, which is free, even in france.

The only thing which could cost you is texting in to subscribe but if you subscribe online through our web site then it will not cost you a bean. Even the text in number is standard rate so costs you no more than a standard text.

I have just signed up. Looking forward to getting my texts in the small silly hours at Arnage. Should wake me up for a refreshing breakfast beer at 6.
