hello all, i am new here and new at le mans so please be gentle :o

Now not wishing to come across all girly but but I have been wondering now for a while how on earth do I keep up with what is happening during the race for the whole 24 hours, or as long as i can keep up for anyway.

I thought it was about sleep deprivation, anarchic and reckless behaviour, alcohol abuse and a good excuse not to wash for a week.

No seriously though, are there big screens around the circuit or boards telling you who is where at the main viewing places or is it really just guess work.

And yes i shall be drinking etc as well, its just i do want to know what is happening as well.

Last year I saw about 20-30 mins of the race... cos the beer tents were open

If your "there" for the race you'll keep up, if your there for the social life and going with beer monsters probably not.

hello fellow newbie

I have been reading this forum for a while now, and despite the strange devotion to TVR's and hatred of Porsches they seem a good bunch only joking TVR's are good cars.

Anyways Le Girl i have been going to Le Mans for about 6 years now and i never really know what is going on in the race, yes i do drink, run around etc as well but also would like to keep up with the race. The chaps i go with take a small radio everywhere and listen to radio le mans, but i prefer that at the campsite only, as i feel a bit shut out from the general tomfoolery with headphones on all the time.

Now i am not sure how to link threads but there is another one which popped up about a week ago saying there is a text message service which is free and tells you race news i think. I will have a look and see if i can link and that i got it right. Bear with me!!!

There are big screens in a number of places which show the on-track action, and is the only real way to see on track action as the size of the circuit means to see any incidenent live with your eyes is oure luck.

In addition the circuit commentary is in French and English, but usually inaudible over the noise of the cars! However it is broadcast over the airwaves.

However most english speakers tune into Radio Le Mans who have all sorts of coverage in the few days up to the race and then have a commentary during the race. Excellent coverage!

Thanks chris, i have heard about radio LM and have a radio, both in the car and a small one to carry with me. Also turbo4, could you dig out this other thread for me, text thing sounds excellent, not wanting to sound all female but texting i can handle, sounds a great idea, HA HA.

Also what shoes should i take?

As for shoes, if teh wife is anything to go by, she would probably take her birkenstocks (SP) for the day and something withg a kitten heel for the evenings.

...but to keep on topic.... Radio Le Mans is a lot of fun. The DJs/commentators don't seem to sleep and so towards the end of the race start talking gibberish but it is a lot of fun. They'll let you know about all the off-track goings-on too.

You can buy radios at the circuit but it is cheaper to get a 10 Euro one at the local Carrefour, unless of course you've something you can take with you. You'll find it difficult to hear your radio even with earphones when you're in the stands though.

What day are traveling down and how are you crossing ferry etc. because there will be lots of cars going at different times and it might be worth talking to veterans on the ferry and get some good tips. As for keeping up you can buy a small radio in the village that will keep you upto date. there are screens around the track.there are plenty of threads on here but if you need to ask questions you will get plenty of answers.it is a great time belive me.

This is a good point, you need the radio on full volume to hear the commentary over the noise of the cars! Solution to that is a proper set of ear defenders that go over your ears once the earphones are in them!

Now this thread is reminding me of the things I usually forget to pack! Not forgotten the tent yet, but forgotten the radio most years.

Talking of radio don;t foget spare batteries as it can be remarkably difficult to get replacements at the circuit. Oh and a radio with a digital frequency tends to be easier to tune in!

Take shoes that you don't care about - and that will protect you from all the broken glass...

If you have magic shoes that stop you from falling over or stepping out into traffic - they'd be goo too...

I was there for PQ this weekend - and am getting v excited now...

HA HA i will take a pair of last years heels then. They should keep be away from any broken glass as they are a good height and being sooo last year i will not care if i scuff them as i stumble out of teh champagne bar.

We are going on thursday, jolly early on Seafrance, would be good to meet up with some other lmers, we shall be the 2 girls in the black elise s2 with many bags on the boot rack.

Somehow, I'd imagine it will be pretty hard not to run into a LMer at LM!

but a bit harder to meet freindly PHLM'ers at the ferry port and then again all the way down.

A convoy is always nice, but then i do not think i will be going down with anyone with a V dub rep car and a liking of cheap sarcasm at a ladies expense.
