That was a sh*t-load of speed traps coming back wasn't it?

I must say the French police really have the art of hidden speed traps down to a T!! I can honestly say I drove back adhering to the limit every Km of the way... took ages!

So, anyone unfortunate enough to lose their car this year?

I left at 11.30 yesterday morning and only spotted one speed trap. Cop on a bridge and then 25k up the road a colleague appeared to be checking a list at the last toll bridge before Calais.

Saw a lambo on the back of a recovery vehicle. Don't know whether that was a breakdown or otherwise. Execellent overtaking manouver by noble, lambo, fezza, turbo, impreza and 997 911 on the way back. Those guys appeared in convoy and were really moving.

it was all a bit obvious, didnt see any french cars being stopped....

My M5 was stopped for supposedly jumping an amber light in one of the villages on the way back.

We were a bit worried as no car docs or driving licence, but the fine of €22 seems good value for such a unique holiday 'certificate' and photo opportunity of ones old man sat in the gendarmes van.

I think we should have a french cheese and wine festival in cambridge once a year and then call every traffic cop from the country to target just our gallic neighbours with £500 spot fines - it would seem fair.

No loss of car, but €90 fine.

They said I was doing 177km/h, but I don't think i was actually more than 10-20km/h over the speed limit when they say they clocked me (having just pulled out of a service station!). Suppose it more than makes up for the rest of the driving though!

Off topic - I think I saw you in the queue for the tunnel ! silver S2000 with the ratpac logo? Matches the photos from the 'ring

I think I saw you Pikey on the way back, I was in the red CTR, I thought you were being quite restrained. I made it all the way back without seeing a single trap, where were they all then?

I was stopped on the way there as they thought I had a radar detector in the car (I didn't). They checked for 'drugs and guns' (no, sorry, none of them either) and then let me go.

Pi$$es me off though, they pursued me from one of the 'speed trap bridges' when there were a bunch of cars going faster than me (I was religiously sticking to 130km/h after being clocked on the M20 that morning).

However, IIRC the fine for a radar detector is c.€1,000 (plus they get the pleasure of making one drive over the thing), so they were obviously just chasing revenue

Apparently one guy in a TVR hasd his licence pulled just before Gace. Apart from that no problems seen or encountered.

Well, we did Le Mans to Calais leaving straight after the race and all we saw was one speed trap about 15kms before Gace, for which we had been given plenty of warning from cars coming the other way flashing!

There were loads of police at all the traffic lights and junctions as you drove through the villages (not with speed traps however), but I thought that this was very sensible policing as there's a lot of testosterone flowing and lots of locals standing on the road-sides, who'd come out to see all the returning cars... so a simple measure to stop the traffic light grand-prixs!!

Indeed our group had experience of that!

Perhaps the police were doing him a favour, he could say that the car didnt let him down, just his driving.

Yeah, that was me Glad I finally got a 'spotted'!!

Ah - you weren't looking hard enough It was at double numbers that I stopped counting them!! Thing is they're all hidden.

They have a 'spotter' car - completely plain and hidden off the road. A wire runs from that to a tiny tripod with a brown disc-looking thing on top. I presume this is a radar & camera device of some sort. The spotter radio's through to cops parked up about a mile further on, also well back from the side of the road.

Seems to be a deliberate tactic of no visible police presence as this was just too efficient.

Saw none on way down (other than a scamera van on M20 crawling along at 60mph), and leaving at 11am yesterday blasted back (at sometimes crazy speeds) in a porsche convoy unmolested thankfully.

Epic journies like that really make you bond with the car I find !

Well I did Mulsanne village to Barcelona in 8.45 hours – 640 miles. Left at 18:45 last night.

Didn’t see a single police car let alone speed trap However I also didn’t see a single waving crowd or exotic car either

One of our early returners got tugged, rather silly doing 130 in a 70 - €750 fine, license gone and his passenger had to drive the rest of the way home. I left today and took it steady via Paris route.

Great Le Mans though - I watched the finish from the pit wall as the AJR/BAM TWAT RSR finished in first place (GT2)....
