Not many children go but my 8 year old's been twice and loves it. Make sure you've got something to keep the 4 year old out of the sun - this is essential. I don't think I'd go with a child of any age without a seat in a covered grandstand. It was over 40 degrees for part of the race this year. And, has been said already, take a gazebo for camp site shade.

Hmmmmmm.....

Has anyone got any incling what weekend we might be looking at? We're thinking of doing Le Mans, staying on for a bit in civilised France and England and then doing the Goodwood festival of speed on the way home and make nearly 2 weeks out of it. As Goodwood was moved for the British GP this year, does anyone know if the two weekends will happen together again this year?

Give it up guys OK. It's way too early to know what date it's going to be. A) this is the french we're dealing with and B) this is the ACO we're dealing with.

Drink a little more wine, eat a little more cheese, relax and enjoy the summer.....

According to Just Tickets & Motoring, provisional dates have been announced as June 17/18, and "they don't normally change"...

I think it's way too early to speculate - however, I have heard a suggestion from a fairly good source that it is likely to be "earlier rather than later" and more likely to be four weeks from the Classic which is the 8/9 July.

I'm happy to be proved wrong but my money is on the earlier weekend the 10/11 June. I'm also hearing that pre-qual will be two weeks before the race weekend as this year but with the added incentive that it may include the full circuit at some points in the proceedings.

My bet if I were a gambling man! and Piglet knows I NEVER gamble!

Pre qual 27-28 May 2006
Race 10-11 June
Historic 8-9 July

We had all this last year people claiming to have confirmation of the dates. The ACO will not confirm the race dates until the FIA calendar is confirmed at the ratification meeting so that can ensure a GP clashes with Le Mans usually Canada!

The ACO normally fix the date of the Historic well in advance a year or more then the 24-hour race is normally one month or 4 weekends before that.

The two-week format was popular with the teams but the added bonus of using the full circuit may encourage more people to test. But then the ACO has the cost, the disruption of closing a main road during the week and marshalling of the big circuit.

There were no marshals on post around the Bugatti at the test week last year if anybody went off or stopped they scrambled a rescue team from the pit lane!

They did this year. Provisional dates were a week before the event actually took place.

Is the Classic date fixed for the 8/9th July? - may well go for that instead of the 24hrs next year.

The reason Le Man is being brought forward next year is to do with the Le Man Classic as they want to co-inside the both together. As they have hundreds of classic cars racing prior to the 24hr Le Man race so it should be a brilliant fun pack weekend of motor racing for all - I'm trying to arrange a TVR Guernsey Trip and took this into account so if people wish to go to Le Man for the second week.

pimplegoose, I don't understand what you mean? bringing the 24 hour forward takes it further from the classic which I think is confirmed for the July date? Perhaps I'm being dim here but I don't understand!

Had my first trip this year and was totally awesome.
Booked through Motor Racing International,so was fairly easy to arrange ferry/camping etc in one go,stayed in Houx campsite with numbered pitch so no hassle finding a space(although had trouble getting tent pegs in rock hard ground with no hammer!!!)

Definately be returning if not next year then 2007,(I believe peugeot planning to enter a diesel then) so might be interesting.

Was amazed at my ability to survive on very little sleep, caffeine and nicotine kept me going, although felt like crap on arriving home.

Is it true that it's always held on 24th weekend of the year which i read somewhere?

Just checked the ROLEX website and they're advertising it as 17th/18th of June 2006!!!

They're a big sponsor so it must the weekend to go for.

I really can't wait to go now!!!! I convinced a mate to tag along this year as i knew he'd be hooked and he was fairly reluctant at first, but once bitten, he's well hooked on it now.

COME ON!!!
