This year whilst travelling on the horrible stretch of single track road south of Rouen, I kept seeing glimpses of a nearly completed beautiful road that hopefully will soon replace that leg of the journey.

Can anyone confirm where this road goes to and from and whether it will be open for next year.

Because of this awful stretch I am thinking about going down via Paris - any comments?

See you next year

The new road will link with the motorway that links Alencon with Le Mans. So next year you will be able to drive all the way from Rouen to Le Mans via motorway.

This will save at least one hour on the journey.

Think the road is supposed to be opening in the Spring in 2006 according to my Collins French road map.

The hour's time saving might start to make up for the 2 hours we spent queuing to get off the finished section north of Le Mans on the way back on Monday.....

In some ways I will be a bit sad to see the old N138 made redundant. Then again, with the increased cop presence it's not nearly as much fun now goinb down there. I suppose you can always dip onto it for a bit if you like...
