Anyone have any idea if I could use a roof tent aswell as a tent as long as I was within the pitch size?
Yeah you'll be fine, I've only ever stayed at beausejour and even last year they didn't really enforce any pitch sizes. We had two 3 man tents and a campervan on one pitch. Did pay for two but they only accepted one camping ticket as we only had one vehicle!

How can they only 'accept' one ticket when you had paid for two?

"Another silly question, we can take our own booze in yeah?" . . . . but they can sometimes be funny about glass bottles . . . so I always take cans.

In terms of general entry points, the rule is no glass but I have seen security interpret it as simply no alcohol, which isn’t correct.

We like to take our own picnic in on Saturday with some red wine. Been quite fun getting the bottle through (within one of those blankets that fold up.. all interest in the bag whilst holding the blanket).

Have switched to taking in a decent box-o-wine. Box opened within bag and food on top of it. Worked alright so far. But the security checks haven’t exactly been rigorous.

We had a camping toilet / bucket type thing in the back of the van last year. We didn't actually use it, it was an emergency thing in case the queues were too long. Anyhow, once the security bods on the gate saw that, they suddenly decided they didn't want to search the van any more laugh Good job really as we had quite a lot of bottled wine and illicit British bacon laugh

If you campsite is within the GE area there are sometimes problems but we usually get round them. Once in the campsite they do check that you do not take glass into the circuit itself.

The rule is to never expect any rule to be correctly or consistently applied.

I saw cans of beer being confiscated at the main entrance last year.

Wine isn't too difficult to get in. Pals of mine put it in a plastic 2 litre Canada Dry bottle every year.

Pretty much the same as every year, we had fold up bikes and if we got asked about our cans we just cycled onto another entrance and invariably got in.

The security check is pretty lack lustre so some creative packing is pretty reliable i.e don't have them on bottom of bag, have something soft at the bottom, put something over the cans for the inside inspection i.e packed lunch etc. Side some into your fold up chair case if you are carrying one.

Think they only ever scanned one, I can't remember exactly as I was sat in the back of the motorhome, very tired after a long and squeaky journey!

What are people's thoughts on grandstand tickets, and their necessity? I have been 3 times before, once staying on a public campsite at the end of the Mulsanne, and twice on the TL private campsite. Neither of these occasions have I purchased Grandstand tickets, and didn't really regret this decision either if I'm honest. This year, from what I can tell, everyone seems to be trying to get hold of some.......any particular reason for this?

I think the shortage of grandstand seats is mostly down to an increase in corporate type attendance, that and the overall attendance increase, the number of additional grandstands has been relatively small

Yes, agree. My question wasn't so much as to why they are so hard to get, it was more about asking how essential they are? I haven't felt the need in previous years....

Personal preference for me to always have grandstand - great views - kept the rain off me last year and the sun off the year before.

Hi,

Looking for some help/advice.

I'm an ACO member. Can anyone confirm whether it's possible to purchase club member hospitality access online before the event or does it have to be done at the circuit?

Had a look on the website but its not clear (to me at least!).

Thanks, George

Kind of essential if you are used to them and makes it a lot easier for smaller groups especially at start and finish time.

Avoids sitting or standing for 3 hours plus pre-start and easier for getting in and out for refreshments.

Lots of empty seats at start in corporate block of 150 or so seats in front of us last year in T23 1/3 empty at start and 1/2 empty fir last hour (seat blocks all unavailable pretty much as sales opened). Getting seats together for groups over 4 must be a nightmare now unless have big groups going through agents.

Reckon places like Arnage camping are becoming more attractive as GS’s getting much dearer now.

I've had a grandstand seat pretty much every year since about 2003. I sat in T34 (Pits GS) for years until changing to T17 (Durand) for a few years now. I've also sat in Raccordement (f. Maison Blanche), Goodyear (f. Dunlop) and the temporary stands down towards Tertre Rouge. Plus Lagache twice as well. I'm now 66 (will be 67 by next year's race) and not as fit as I once was. A GS seat is now pretty essential to me, especially for the start and finish, the latter due to 'nodding dog syndrome after staying up all night!). But as a protection against sun, rain (or both!), it's a godsend.

As to the ACO hospitality areas, you can access these via your membership options when you log in. However I believe it has been said that they are now fully booked.

I got mine when I got my membership online and have recently bought an extra access pass for a mate online too. I did see they were going to stop selling them when they reached a certain point, but whether they will or not I don't know.
