Good evening,
2024 will be my 3rd visit to Le Mans 24hr but this time i need to travel back Sunday after the race, instead of Monday to catch the 23.30 ferry from Caen.
Do folks think that its a bad thing to do in terms of how busy it will potentially be getting away from Le Mans at around 5pm ?

We’ve done that a few times. There’s usually enough time to pack up camp and grab a quick bite to eat in Caen before catching the ferry. Depending on where you are camping roads can get busy immediately after the race but if you give it a couple of hours the traffic usually calms down fairly quickly.

Indeed. We usual stroll back to the campsite after the finish, pack things up (having done some of it Sunday morning) and get going once the first wave of traffic has died down.

If you are super keen then pre-pack your car, move close to the campsite exit (or find a grass verge on the street) and scurry back as soon as the chequered flag drops.

The traffic immediately after the race isn't too bad at all. We have a habit of scarpering as soon as the race finishes and are back at our base on the outskirts of Le Mans in 20-25 minutes. Even last year the traffic was surprisingly light. Exiting from Expo instead of Parking Blanc (as we did for years) also made a huge difference.

We leave after the race every year heading up to Calais for a ferry around 10ish. See the race end rush to the car and off we go, sticking religiously to the speed limit on the motorway and make the ferry.

This year it went a bit pear shaped. We weren’t in Expo for obvious reasons but in Epinettes and the ACO decided we couldn’t leave the campsite until an hour after race end.

Then we directed up to the D323and right towards Chartres. There was a big queue to get off at the A28 junction so we stayed on the D323 and came back making progress via Dreux, and Evreux, up to Rouen and on to Calais. Made excellent progress just missing the Eurotunnel at 10.30.

Next year we are on the 23.59 from Dieppe and might well use the same route to Rouen

If you're on the overnight out of Caen, you'll be fine. Don't sweat on it and leave around 1800. You'll be at Ouistreham in plenty of time.
