When I booked with TD I just booked the tickets through them, not the travel, there was no extra for early arrival then, apart from way back when the campsite marshals would want 10 or 20 euros extra on the Monday (probably nearly 20 years ago, when Monday was camping opening day)

Got my bill by email this evening. They have overcharged me by £4000. Travel Destinations are literally incompetent. Still no ferry crossings either. #shrug#

What the hell did they add on? That’s a massive overcharge

They appear not to have made the crossing bookings in good time which will make them more expensive, they also appear to be asking customers for more money for things the customers weren’t expecting to pay extra for / shouldn’t have to pay extra for.

Could there possibly be a connection there?

I think they must have booked my trip for 4, not for 2. Even if I split the cost, it still seems stupidly expensive.

Every single bit of admin that they’ve had to organise so far, they’ve either got it wrong or not done it at all. I’m going to complaint to ABTA tomorrow as I want my deposit back. I’m done with them.

I presume MTD are ABTA registered.

They used to be before the takeover. Nothing now on their site and a check of the ABTA website shows nothing for business name or postcode.

They defo were registered before the takeover but same I can’t see the info anywhere on the new site or any of the confirmations or T&C
Now we’ve given them our balance and starting to worry redface

I’ve even thought to check until now, I just presumed the bigger company would be covered!

I'm very surprised that neither Travel Destinations, Motorsport Travel Destinations or Motorsport Events are listed on the ABTA website and I am quite annoyed with myself for not checking beforehand. So if the travel company faces financial difficulties we are not covered for refund and the money is gone.
Obviously not expecting anything to go wrong between now and June, but I may look at alternatives for next year.

Just asked them via their chat capability - confirmed they are not ABTA-registered.

No impact to me as my/our requirements are simpler so book things individually, but not good for others as we have seen here.

Clearly the cost/process of ABTA registration/certification/keeping money in escrow(?) was too onerous.

I believe they used to be the only motorsports agent that came under ABTA and used to shout about it. I wonder if they were as vocal when they stopped being a member and how many people are unaware of the change?

Don't forget that there has been a change of ownership in the past few years, so would guess that was when ABTA membership ceased.

It's all meaningless until things go wrong and you have credit card support only, I presume?

There is a requirement that all Travel companies selling packages have to conform to the The Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 :https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukdsi/2018/9780111168479/contents/made

The covers financial protection to clients this can be via a bond issued by ABTA or ABTOT or by a trust account always worth checking if your providor has this protection in place.

Yeah Rex (from MTD) confirmed to me via email on Saturday when I threatened an ABTA official complaint that they aren’t ABTA registered.

He said he’d look into my non-confirmed ferry bookings as a priority today. Still no word.

So, do I risk a couple of thousand on the trip of a lifetime for me and my boy or do I leave him heartbroken but without the potential of losing all that money? It’s not an easy call and I’m frankly gutted that I didn’t do my due diligence before I booked with them. Le Mans may end up being amazing but I sure as hell have a bad taste in my mouth at the moment about it.
