Yeah Rex (from MTD) confirmed to me via email on Saturday when I threatened an ABTA official complaint that they aren’t ABTA registered.

He said he’d look into my non-confirmed ferry bookings as a priority today. Still no word.

So, do I risk a couple of thousand on the trip of a lifetime for me and my boy or do I leave him heartbroken but without the potential of losing all that money? It’s not an easy call and I’m frankly gutted that I didn’t do my due diligence before I booked with them. Le Mans may end up being amazing but I sure as hell have a bad taste in my mouth at the moment about it.
The trip will be amazing so always worth it. Although they have been a st show this time (and most of us will be looking elsewhere next time) we have used TD 5 times and it's always been a great experience when there. I'm not up to date with what cover credit card provides having never had to rely on it but assume you have paid that way way it should give some peace of mind.

Not sure how your crossings still haven't been confirmed though.

Thanks Ben, that actually does make me feel better about things! I’m definitely going to pay by credit card, whenever the day arises that they actually send me the correct bill for my booking. They DID sent me a bill/itinerary again on Saturday, and somehow my grandstand tickets had miraculously reappeared on the invoice.

I’m not getting too excited, however. They just sent me an old bill and hadn’t bothered to check on their emails etc that my grandstand tickets had been reallocated to someone else when they accidentally cancelled my booking. This is the point though… it’s just so sloppy and disinterested by them. There can’t be that many of us clients yet we are being treated in a manner than is (at best) offhand.

The email said “I’m sorry to hear you've been having these problems” and I thought to myself, sorry to hear? We’ve been exchanging emails for months now and it still doesn’t seem to be a blip on their radar.

I’m utterly perplexed. Worst customer service I had received in many’s the year.

Just to add some balance to this...

I've been really slack at getting my trip organised for this year's race, but I emailed TD about a month ago, got a quick reply, made some amendments to the booking, faffed around, changed some more details, sat on the booking for a week and then finally decided to go ahead... and TD have been quick to respond and helpful throughout.

I should add that I have no allegiance to TD, having only stayed in their (excellent) event tents site for the first time last year after our usual provider was fully booked due to the centenary.

As I say, I just wanted to add some balance to the discussion - and also to set some minds at ease; our trip last year was genuinely brilliant and the facilities were up there with the best that we've experienced (hence our return to them this year). I'm sure that it will all be fine and that we should collectively go back to stressing about the weather.

Looking forward to a great race.

To those that have been with TD before to Le Mans.

What is actually provided? - tent, bed frame any else?

And what conveniences are there? Understand toilets and showers, what about food etc?

I've only stayed in the "event tents" (which is where we're booked for again this year, and based on your question I suspect you might be in there too?)

Included in that is:

The pre-errected bell tent
Proper wooden bed frames with actual mattresses and bedding
A rudimentary clothing rail / hangar / wardrobe
Solar lighting
A table and chairs for outside,
Nice clean showers and toilets (i never had to wait for either lat year, so there were enough)
A covered outdoor seating area (next to the power points for device charging)
Bar / catering tent. Typical food and drinks choices and not priced too outrageously all things considered. We took a lot of our own drinks so didn't frequent it too often to be honest.
Security, which seemed pretty decent too - we were asked to show our passes every time we entered.

Last year was our first year staying with TD and on this site, and it was good enough that we rebooked it without even discussing the possibility that we could go elsewhere or back to "the usual". As mentioned early in the thread I'm sure they're not perfect but it was good enough for us!

You can also go into the main TD campsite to go to the bar or make the most of the viewing banking).

Depends what you book, I always book just Porche Curves and bring my own tent etc. On that site you can also book pre-erected tents. There are good showers, toilets and bar and this is the location with the viewing bank. As JDIZZLER mentions there is glamping on the Beauséjour side of the track as well as cabins you can book a fair distance away.

The clothing rail/hangar/wardrobe must have been new last year....can't recall one before (we didn't go last year)

The tents etc are provided by a different company now and the wooden frame beds are way better than the previous inflatable ones.

Can't say ours got much use as surpringly none of us had taken much in the way of smart clothing... but fair play to them for trying to elevate it I guess. The beds were genuinely comfortable too, which was a welcome surprise!
