Its a charge for additional days worth of use of TD facilities I guess? Not an access charge as such.

Our additional charge that they tried to claim was £500 extra (£125 per person x 4 additional for event tents)

I had been quoted £125 per pitch which is what we had paid x 2.

so our camp is supposed to be hippodrome, so its not even a TD "own" campsite. What site are u on?

Ben Jk said:
Yep.

This is what I was chasing them about last week as our balance had gone up £500. In our case it seems there was confusion at their offices and I had been told there was an early arrival charge Per Pitch and our original balance reflected this, but then the new balance landed last week with the £500 increase and quoted per person.

Luckily I still had the email confirming in writing it was per pitch so challenged it and got the balance dropped back to original. Not paying additional due to their error!

There has always been an additional charge by TD for early arrival as you get an additional day of use of their facilities and chance to pay over the odds for their food and drink!.

If they’re charging extra for arriving ‘early’ on a public campsite they’re taking the piss, never mind £110 per person

We are in Event Tents at Porsche Curves. Granted, that is a TD only site.

Seem to be in a similar boat to others with TD.

I've been ringing on and off all week to pay the balance. I've also emailed them asking to call me so I can pay. Given the questions over them I'll not be paying via bank transfer.

Up till now, their responses haven't been too bad as I requested a change of vehicle for the crossing.

Reading about the facilities being poor, I'm now apprehensive about proceeding with the booking altogether. We've not been before and is my Mrs first proper race event so if it goes to hell we won't be going again!

Are you on Porsche curves?
Last year was better than 2022 I have to say! Toilets and showers were bad that year. 2023 they were cleaned regularly and stocked up.

We don’t use the bar/food that much so didn’t really affect us.
Just the overall organisation that I don’t like
Same as you no way are we doing bank transfer, credit card only here
Also trying to get through to pay our balance in

I've find them pretty responsive via the help@ email if you need the link to pay via card.

Our whole lot has been paid via CC to for peace of mind!

I can only comment on Event Tents but on the whole the facilities are decent (hence why we are willing to pay premium), and why we been 5 times previously. In 2022 the tents and beds were better than they had been before (wooden beds rather than inflatable). We didn't go last year so can't compare.

Food & drink is expensive for what it is but that's the case generally at LM. We take a small stove for hot drinks to reduce some of the cost.

Toilets and showers are okay. Queues for showers at peak times. Generally kept pretty clean but have to consider if you go in after the peak rush they won't be as clean. They do get cleaned during the day, every day. Hot water drops a little during busy periods but always warm. They usually start off with separate toilets and showers for male/female but then this has been scrapped at points previously to support the queues. Generally far less women on site than men. Not always well received by the females! .

Site is secure and has gates manned 24hrs, some of the "security" are pretty young but its an easy job with everyone having colour coded wrist bands...no band no entry.

Yes, Porsche Curves.

No one will answer the phone and I've sent emails asking for someone to get in touch.

However, I went to Motorsport Tickets website and started a live chat saying I couldn't get through to anyone to pay the balance. I've received an email just now with a link to pay the balance. I've now paid my balance with a CC. Have also managed to change the car.

@Ben JK - thank you for your input. Feel more reassured now. Comms had been OK up until this week.

One thing - not really related to TD. Is it possible to go offsite? If we arrive on Thursday and get bored Friday, can you leave the track and explore the area? More a question from Mrs EddScott smile

Yep - you can leave site whenever you want however if by car, the busy arrival days can be a pain...queuing to get through the local roads to get back in etc.

You can easily walk to places though or get tram to Le Mans Centre. Our group tends to do Le Mans centre for food and drinks on the Thursday afternoon and then walk to Arnage on the Friday afternoon for a tour round the bars. Usually a decent atmosphere there on the Friday.

I emailed ACO about TD charging for “early” access and I received the reply : “we will make enquiries as we never charge extra for early access”
Did you get any response? Our team is facing the same thing, but we're not in a TD enclosure, just on general camping so TD incur no additional costs from our arrival...

Just had a similar thing happen to me. Booking for a group on 12 people on 6 pitches.

We are due to camp on Tetre rouge and we are not part of any TD enclosure of any sort.

In December after getting the confirmed quote/invoice we paid the deposits. Then paid the rest of the booking on Friday last week.

This morning, received an email out the blue stating there are still outstanding payments of £110 pp for the 'early arrival fee'. This was not on any invoice up to this point. Spoke with them this morning and they confirmed that it has to be manually added to the invoice and that someone forgot to add it earlier down the line. I'm now expected to cough up the additional £1320 today.

Not very impressed, I'm currently awaiting a call from their escalations team.

I can't see how TD can justify charging additional "early arrival fee" if you aren't staying on one of the TD only sites with additional amenities/security etc.

They’re having you on, I’ll be on TR as soon as the gates open the Friday the week before the race, there’s no additional charge for arriving ‘early’, hasn’t been for probably 15 years, and even then it was 10 or 20 euros to the campsite marshals/

Christ almighty! How flaming much??? Thats about what I've paid in total for myself and my partner to go this year. I'm sorry, if its not explicitly mentioned in any quotation or invoices, I'd be telling them to either swallow it or refund the whole thing. Absolute st show.

It's evident that it's a cash grab. It might be defensible if it were for their closed sites, looking at longer costs to be set up and running, but to attempt to apply to open camping is greedy. Doing so at this point ("the final payment-due day") is peak short-termist whilst they believe they hold all the cards and will impact on return customers next year.

I'm asked regularly by newbies and they'll all now be warned after this year's shenanigans. There'll be a stickied mod-post at the top of our subreddit which carefully explains our experience throughout the booking season.

I can't think that that the ACO would be impressed with a company levying an additional (and significant) charge for 'open camping', surely?

Do you book directly with the ACO?

I swapped from TD to Just Tickets 11 or 12 years ago for this reason - TD charged for public camping on a per person basis and assuming a Thursday to Monday trip. If you want to add more than 2 persons to your car/camping pitch or travel earlier then a pretty lumpy surcharge was added, much more than the cost of the GA ticket which is all it should have been. This was, however, all set out in the Ts and Cs so it was above board but was very easy to walk away from once you chat to other campers and understand what the alternative booking options are, and Paul at Just Tickets is one of the best at this.
