Are any PHers going?

I am currently looking at flying into nice and staying there. Taking the train each day.

So I have websites that say it is 13 mins on the train and friends who have been saying two hours travelling on train from Nice. Has anyone done this? Is it convenient from Nice?

I can't see any general admission tickets on sale, so is it free to walk around once you are there?

The reason for the travel is hotels in Monoco are well outside my price range. So is there better solutions than staying in Nice? What are others doing?

It's about a 20mins journey and goes right into Monaco.

Nice isn't that far by train. You need to buy a grandstand ticket to see anything, though they are only about 60euros for a weekend ticket and some locations are available at kiosks at the event.

Stay in Beausoleil. I have a hotel I have used for the past 5 events at 105euros a night and 10 mins walk from Casino Sq... Its technically in France, so costs are nothing like Monaco!

I'm going with a friend. Staying 4 miles outside Monaco. Tickets are already on sale online. Mine were €45 each including grandstand seats.

Am I correct in thinking this is a bi-annual event, won't make it this year but would love to go in a couple of years time. Saw it on TV (ITV4 I think) and couldn't believe the sheer diversity of cars on show and on that circuit too cloud9

Yes, every two years.
If you rock up there on the Friday you can walk the course before they close it off at around mid-day. Afternoon practise session is/was free access all areas (except garages).
Also worth considering staying in Italy as it's the same train into the centre of Monaco.
Well worth a trip....
Cheers, Pewe.

Thanks for all the info guys. I now have grandstand tickets. I just hadn't realised how cheap they were!

Once you have the ticket, can you walk in anytime? I can't see any walking paths round the circuit, so was wondering if you have to be in the grandstand when they close the circuit at 6.30am?

I'm going with my g/f and we are staying in Nice. We're in grandstand K4 on Saturday and B on Sunday.

I'd have thought you will be able to go in and out of the grandstands at any point during the day but if the grandstand is sold out then probably a good idea to get there early so you have more choice of seats.

Looks like you can buy train tickets online in advance - does anyone have experience of this?

Also does anyone have any recommendations for reasonably priced lunch options in Monaco?

Did I really see the Yardley McLaren M23 being dropped from a crane on to the track from a height of about 40ft?
The owner must be spitting blood!!! It had just stopped on the track with a mechanical problem, it's certainly got mechanical problems now!!!

Yes, that did happen, you weren't seeing things! Then the safety car coming out in the middle of the pack caused more trouble.

In 2017 the 11th edition of the biennial, Monaco Historic Grand Prix, shall take place on the famous street circuit which still uses the same roads as the very first race on 14th April 1929. Enjoy the sights and sounds of some amazing cars from the golden age of motor racing as the drivers tackle the twists and turns on the legendary circuit of Monaco. The scream of super-tuned Grand Prix engines, from between the 1930's and 1980's, echoing around the natural amphitheatre that is Monaco Bay. The intoxicating smell of scorched rubber and fuel lingering through the warm evenings and rub shoulders with the rich and famous in Casino Square with its endless display of supercars. Treat yourself or someone special to a truly unique event and take away some wonderful memories.
