How do you work out that these amazing lease deals asking for 6 payments upfront, a £200 finance fee and being restricted to 8000 per year to own the car for just two years are any good? You'd need to pay a good several hundred in charges if you do an average mileage.

I ask because the Ford Focus ST3 which seems popular on this thread is on drive the deal for £15815. It's offered at 4.9% interest on PCP over 24 months for 12,000 miles and has a GFV of £10,000 (Ford website). This would result in monthly payments under £200.

Deposit of £2,500 is needed though but there'd have to be some kind of economic apocalypse to lose this deposit come trade in - unlike the lease deal where it's gone for good.

I don't like all this ignorance with lease 'deals' with the high deposits and low mileages which are clearly just a ploy to lower the headline monthly price. Where are the actual good x 3 deposit lease deals? They seem to have gone for good.
trouble is that it is not really a deposit. it is an advance payment , you do not get this back'

Some, in fact most of the lease deals out there are rubbish.

But using your example figures above, if something costs £300 per month, you would pay £8,900 over two years. If you like to change your car frequently then if you would otherwise buy something that would depreciate by £9k or more, leasing is a better deal.

In the case of the Focus you've quoted, I think you may be referring to a Fiesta. The lowest I can get a barebones, red Focus ST is £17256 with a discount of £3088 + a deposit allowance (included in DTD's price) of £1950. MGFV is £11075 giving you a PCP payment of £307 on 9k miles per year. I'm not convinced that trade in on a base spec, red, petrol, pre-facelift Focus will be far north of £11k in two years' time even if it is the quick one. Assuming a grand of equity you get a total cost of £6466 over two years.

If that were a lease with a £200 fee and a six-month deposit, that would be £216 all in per month. It is slightly cheaper than some lease deals, but really not by very much. Add on £40 per month in the event that the equity isn't there and you're all square with comparable deals.

I think the assumption is that with £2,500 down and a GFV of £10k you would still get £12,500 back on a car that retails at under £16k new. It's not one that I would share. (I think that Raymond is referring to a Fiesta being under £16k, not a Focus, even though I did a worked example with the Focus. And if the Focus were <£16k I think I'd be ordering one!)

Sorry I was referring to a Fiesta ST3 with a RRP of just over £19k discounted to just under £16k on DTD.

The GFV is close to £10k at 2 years old on the Ford website.

Would the 'most desirable' small fiesta with 25,000 miles on the clock be worth under £10k to the trade after 2 years?

Given that they'd have to retail it at least £2k below the best discounted price, and make £2k or so across that, it would have to be under £12k and probably quite a bit under.

So with £2,500 down and £200 x 23 you'd be paying £7,100 less any equity. I'd be factoring in a max of £11k, so maybe £1k, so that a PCP costs you £6,100 including interest.

A lease at £180 per month would be £200+ (£180 x (23 + 6)) = £5420.

Assuming that only allows 8k miles annually then your car with 9k miles over at 8ppm would break even with the PCP.

If the car is worth less than £11k then that favours the lease; if it's more then it favours the PCP and with the PCP it's much easier to keep the car for more, or less, time.

Seems ok. Are you happy paying £290 a month for 2 years for an A-Class diesel?

It all comes down to your own personal requirements.
£290? Looks like £240 to me. Or are you including deposit?
Including deposit initial payment, yes. smile

How about this http://www.gateway2lease.com/z_mercedes_a-class_a2... does that seem a good deal? Need to find a car sharpish.

Not very P.H but a fully maintained nissan note for £120 seems quite good value for a non petrolhead.

As a side note, ive just ordered a Fiesta ST3 (keyless go, sat nav, bluetooth and heated recaros biggrin) for £231 a month at 15k miles bounce

Give them a ring. I dealt with a guy called Dave, who seems pretty decent TBF.

Also not very PH, but I was quoted £124 + VAT for 3+35 @ 20k miles per year on a Skoda Rapid 1.2 SE Connect today. There are not many cars available and they're stock. Chances are high that they've sold out already.

I take the low stock line with a pinch of salt. When I ordered my Fiesta ST-3 last week I was one told that was one blue and one black left in stock. Super Slow Mo must have the last black one left as I had the last blue.

Yes I'm sure. No doubt they'll be touted around again next week. I gather the 1.2 isn't particularly economical on the motorway either and as that's what we need predominantly it's a bit of a non starter for us.

10K miles

I'm not after one, £4870.90 over 3 years I hear the 1.2 TSI is a decent engine.

ETA just seen the post above but for a differnt and slightly more expensive deal.

Not sure it is, my quote was ex-VAT. It's the same batch of cars, all available in Silver apparently. Looking at reviews, it seems that fuel economy isn't great on the things, which is disappointing, 'cos I could get four cars for less than the three we currently have.

Sorry wrong name. I thought slo picked up the Fiesta. I was tired last night and browsing on the phone. Looks like they were right then. Have you received a specific date yet? I've had my docs I sent as proof approved and I'm just waiting to receive the finance documents.

Got my names confused. Sorry. I'll pass this on to my neighbour. That's ideal for their runs out to the shops etc. Cheers.

Yeah they turned around my finance approval docs in an hour and sent the order form straight away which I returned just as quick. Impressed with the speed overall. Anyone who wants a speedy and helpful person at gateway2lease I highly recommend Connie Marshall.

Mid-sept they said on the form but may be sooner due to it being a stock vehicle. Waiting on an actual confirmed date.

I've sent sent the order form back. Was asked for driving license and statements and they've been approved. So hopefully have it in a month as well. Trying to plan a trip to Wales to see a friend and enjoy the roads.
