The ugliness of the the GT variants means that the only people that want them are the ones that are attracted by discounts applied because no-one wants them. I know a guy who bought a 5GT because of this. it's not something I'd do, but fair enough.

My father and brother both had 5GT's at one point, lovely cars internally with lots of toys, loads of leg room (I believe they're based on the 7 series chassis), but cheaper than an entry level 5 series.

A lot of BMW staff seem to be picking the 3GT at the moment, I presume there's a similar incentive. With seeing them on a daily basis the design is starting to grow on me, for ~£300pm I think I'd consider one.

So my Fiesta Zetec S is due to be delivered to the dealer sometime this week. However, I can't get hold of it for 2 weeks due to the cooling off period.

Really annoying, I know 100% I am not going to change my mind as I need the car asap. Any way to get around this?

no. Actually this isn't as annoying as it could be. Many lease brokers now won't even order a car through the dealer network until the cooling off period passes. This delays getting on the build queue etc., and whilst it might not add any extra delay over what you're experience, it may do if you miss windows etc and it's frustrating if you know there is a waiting list and you're not even on it yet.

I went for that fiesta zetec deal with metallic paint on a personal lease 6+23 - £135pcm + £815 inc vat.
I am tempted by this at 10k a year on the 1.0 Zetec S 125 at G2L represents very cheap motoring to be honest.

pretty sure just having recently been a student doesn't negatively affect your credit score.

That's interesting. I believe the 2 week cooling off period can be avoided by signing in person but the dealership is too far away.

I'll just have to suck it up, really annoying. I am an adult, I know my finances can cover the monthly payment and I would like to commit to buying the car.

Well sorry being an ex-student I have never held a credit card or built up any form of credit whatsoever apart from a £25pm phone so I am not getting accepted on my own despite a decent wage for my age and little outgoings etc...

Unless bankrolled by mum and dad, Spending many years with very little income to speak of (less than the unemployed if you're unlucky) then getting a proper job means a period of potentially poor credit scores, as they are judged on the past and not really on your current situation.

I've had this issue, although not that hard up as a student. My income effectively went from 500 a month to 4k within 3 months of graduating. A year later its just about recovered though.

Its pretty rubbish when it comes to renting your own place, getting a decent car, any kind of credit where your income has suddenly jumped up.

I tend to agree; the people who got us into this had a very well specced 5GT a couple of years ago, and he was paying relative peanuts for it considering the value of the car. It was indeed an ugly car, but my word it was a very pleasant place to be, especially with four of us in it going away for a weekend.

If there part of a big group, it only has to be signed on their trade premises. So they may have another dealer, even a different brand closer to where you live if you really want to get it sooner.

You should be able to write a letter stating to waiver you cooling off rights if you choose.

I think the 2 weeks applies to any finance agreement distance or in-person, although it now applies to distance selling of any other type of goods and services too.... i think... might be some exceptions but that's the theory.

after the age of 18 it's generally a good idea to get yourself credit history, it's not specific to being a student as such. If you were living at home with no 3rd party outgoings then you'd experience the same issue. However, do today's humongous student loans not count as credit in the eyes of the scoring agencies? Maybe it only is visible to them once you start paying it back... or maybe it doesn't count at all as it's all done through PAYE nowadays.

there's a fair chunk of buyers that give a st far more about what a car is like inside than out, and they are as well-specced and built as any other BMW. Everything has its price anyway!

Actually student loans don't count, only on affordability checks and thats only rarely.

But without significant support living on such a low income really makes a dent in it, I think I was only out of my overdraft on loan days, and that was with working 10-30 hours in employment per week. On numerous occasions I had to resort to wonga (it was cheaper than punching through my overdraft limit) and I had a pay as you go phone.

Wasn't so bad in the last year though, workload meant had no time to go out and socialise at all so I ran a V12 to at least keep me sane.
