If your employer has a policy that if you happen to drive your personal car for work purposes (e.g. to visit another site) that you can claim mileage allowance for that then that can be enough, even if it never actually happens. It was for me smile

Talk to the lease company and find out exactly what they require, then go from there. If you don't meet the criteria you don't meet it, there will always be another deal.
So as a police officer I maybe work at different locations maybe 3-4 times a year and claim the excess mileage win a mileage book, my car is insured for business use. Does this mean i would be eligible for these business type lease deals?

I had a police office accepted on a personal deal with a copy of his work contract, a blank copy of an expenses form and current payslip (to prove he was still serving). That was with Arval that want the moon on a stick for personal deals

I believe these requirements are for personal lease deals not business, no idea why, it makes no sense to me.

In my limited experience it will depend on the company. I worked for a big corporate and maybe once or twice a year I had to go to a site about a hundred miles away to do some work on a server there. I could claim mileage back for that.

That was enough to get me a car with "Company Director/Car allowance/Business mileage" through one company, another (on a different car/offer) said it wouldn't be enough. Worth asking the question.

i don't understand what the car/fuel allowance is to do with the lease co, it doesn't tell them anything about you surely? If you're being asked if you're a company director in order to qualify i'd be tempted to walk as they sound like they're bending the rules and trying to get you through on business lease. Again!
I'd be more unhappy that the car manufacturer is applying differential pricing.

Why so? Surely manufacturers are entitled to implement whatever pricing policy they want? There no need for them to get your approval and it doesn't have to be 'fair'.

I wonder what the OFT would officially say about it.

Very little - no company has to do business with every other company and individual in the land, they choose who they want to deal with either by blatantly saying, "we don't want to deal with you," or by pricing themselves out of a particular market. The OFT doesn't have a say if a company only wants to deal B2B.

Odd, police officers don't have contracts?

If it's not a contract I don't know what you'd call it. It had details of his salary, overtime pay, holiday entitlement etc etc

Interesting, learn something new every day. I hadn't realised that they "held office"

is the implication that if you aren't a director and you don't get a car allowance or do business miles, you don't qualify for the personal lease? Or are these just extra info they may find useful for marketing etc...
Yes, to qualify you need to be either company director or in receipt of fuel allowance.
well that's stupid as many larger companies offer their employees a pooled flexible benefits package, which is meant to cover all manner of things. You don't get a car allowance as such, but the idea is that if you need a car then you buy it out of that. On that basis, I probably wouldn't qualify!

Pretty damn tempted to go for this; never leased a car before or even really looked into it; any advice?

http://www.gateway2lease.com/z_ford_fiesta_1.0125p...

Ford Fiesta 1.0 125ps (from a 1L eek) £138 a month, £1000 down.

Edit, deposit doesnt include VAT but nevertheless still £138 a month, £1200 deposit

Looks good to me. I've got my current Golf GTD with G2L and they are a great company to deal with. FWIW they normally charge a £150 admin fee, if you need to work that into your calculations.

Always useful knowing excess mileage fees if you feel you might come close or exceed the quota of the lease.

Essential to know excess mileage fees, because you're signing a contract that enforces them.
