My car is on a yearly service plan, or 10K miles, whichever comes first and the car is on a two year lease. I've asked the question with regards to how people handle the service on return on here previously before (as most people discuss total cost and they included the second yearly service) and the reply was to get the first service carried out a few weeks later than the due date so that the second service is due two weeks after the return date.
I called Network (the car is leased through G2L) and they've said the car needs to be serviced upon return, or I will be charged for a missed service as it will be due on the date of return. I only called as I had to sort out taking the car out of the country.
Terms from the contract are below. 7.1.2 is the key bit and no mention of leeway. It might work with other lease companies, but doesn't appear to be as flexible with my lease.
7 Service, Maintenance and Repair: Your Obligations 7.1You shall, subject to any of our obligations where you have selected the Optional Service under paragraph 9: 7.1.1 take reasonable care of the Vehicle and keep the Vehicle in good and substantial repair and condition at all times making good all damage to the Vehicle whether or not such damage is your fault. 7.1.2 keep the Vehicle properly serviced in accordance with the manufacturers recommended service schedule by an agent approved by us and provide all necessary fluids and lubricants. 7.2Without affecting your general obligations under paragraph 7.1, you shall ensure that: 7.2.1 all tyres are checked regularly and that they are kept in good condition and meet legal requirements; 7.2.2you repair, at your own expense, any stone chips, or cracks or any other damage to the windscreen or other vehicle glass; 7.2.3 accurate service records are maintained at all times and that the approved servicing and repair agent completes and stamps the Vehicle’s service record after each service; 7.2.4 the Vehicle complies with any manufacturer’s recall notice and at your own expense, arrange for such alterations or modifications to the Vehicle as may be required by any law or regulation which comes into effect at any time after the delivery of the Vehicle
So are people taking a gamble with their returns and not servicing the car?
ETA - Sorry don't want to take the thread massively off topic, but a large number of contributors to this thread have been leasing for a while and seem to know the ins and outs better.
Surely just arrange to give the car back 2-3 days before it's 2nd birthday, saying you will be out the country on the 2nd birthday so needs to be gone before then. That is what I plan on doing and I could well be genuinely out of the country I called Network (the car is leased through G2L) and they've said the car needs to be serviced upon return, or I will be charged for a missed service as it will be due on the date of return. I only called as I had to sort out taking the car out of the country.

Why is everybody getting so upset / smug about the idea of avoiding this second service? Your contract states 2 services in 2 years, i hardly think 2 days will make a difference to that, I am sure they are not that inept - Just to what you signed up to do.
Is it so hard to take it to your local indie garage, get genuine parts and have the correct items serviced for 1/4 the cost and hand it back. -

Not sure if its an msport etc? Compare to the prices below as they seem good.

If its estoril blue must be an m sport as you can only get EB as an m sport. Picking my 430d up tomorrow, which is estoril blue m sport.https://www.leasingoptions.co.uk/personal/bmw/3-se...

What car is it? VW's are put on that schedule for private customers, but for lease customers it should be left on long-life servicing so should only need one service in 2yrs.Rick1.8t said:
I suppose you will come back into the country to find a bill for your cars servicing in that case then....

Just get the car serviced instead of trying to find ways of wriggling / loop holes of getting out of it!
Fair enough if there is the option of putting on a two year cycle as suggested above, but otherwise just get it done and you won't have to worry about it...

£375 per month without options. Not too bad but I'm guessing a couple of options will push it out of sight.https://www.contracthireandleasing.com/car-leasing...

^ it's the M-Sport version, which is good enough for most people I imagine
I guess, it just annoys me that you have to pay extra for decent headlights (halogen are standard on all 3-Series), privacy glass, folding mirrors and stuff like that. Mind you I do know someone who has just taken delivery of a factory ordered 330d, pretty much totally loaded and he paid £32k.andrewparker said:

The germans have been masters at this for decades. Make a decent car with no kit whatsoever.I was surprised to get in a colleagues E90 recently and discover that it didn't have dual temperature controls. No big deal for lonely people, but it's essential on our family cars.
My wife likes to be in the Bahamas whilst I set my side of the car to "Highlands during spring" temperature.

Strangely, I couldn't bring myself to drive around in a c1/Aygo/106 etc, but I could drive a Panda - I briefly owned an original one 20ish years ago which spectacularly failed its MOT thanks to rot.3+23 deal. 10k miles. £89.41 inc VAT a month.

Cheaper than catching the bus.
It is annoying with BMW really.
Jaguar have some decent deals on the XE at the moment too.
I've just been quoted for a 2.0 R-Sport Automatic Petrol with upgraded sound system and "black pack"
£2890 initial payment and £321 a month. Comes down to £310 a month without the black pack.
Works out at just over £400 a month over the term. Not too bad at all.

BMW 3 and 5 series are quite a bit cheaper, so it depends if you have to drive the latest make/model or are happy with any car in the same class.
Bmw have always operated this way. I am just about to order a 340i msport touring for £488 a month on a 3/23 deal for 15k a year. Very happy with spec and added privacy, 19" wheels and heated seats. The normal stereo is fine for me and not worth £25 a month nor is the same amount for led lights.
