Is there a fun, petrol car that will do a genuine 40mpg?

Id write the ST fiesta off, Current market makes it one of the most sort after cars for thieves. Insurance has shot up over the past few years,
I changed mine for a Suzuki swift sport, Old school hot hatchery. 1.6 light and can do 40mpg all day. cheap to run, cheap insurance and I had issues with the vac system on my ST, limp mode came on a lot!
You enjoy driving again as you get to feel the car all of the time. 6th gear means it can relax (ish) on the motorway. Will all the bells and whistles as well as used examples being 3500-6000 depending on the year.
Save on insurance and only one tax band up over the ST.

I've been running the Mk8 Fiesta ST since March and my average is 36mpg. It did 48mpg on a 300mile mainly motorway journey. Mid 20's if absolutely hammering it. Cheapest car to insure and tax I've had to date as well. I'd highly recommend one, great little car!
For comparison my Mk7 Golf R averaged 28mpg over 2 years. That managed 36mpg on the same 300mile motorway journey. Low Teens hammering it.
My TTRS was 25mpg average, could do 32 mpg on the 300mile motorway journey. Lowest indicated was 8mpg
To be honest the difference in petrol each week/month/long journey only becomes an issue if your averaging much lower mpg or do big mileage.. the TT was probably only around £5ish a week more than the fiesta in fuel. As good as the fiesta is the smiles per miles the TT gave me are worth every penny imo, but it all depends on individual circumstances.

My 67 plate cooper s will do 40mpg on the motorway as long as you keep it at 70mph or below. It's the same with most performance cars, if you go over 70 the mpg goes down significantly.
Around town the S averages about 20.
The standard cooper is almost as much fun and much much better on fuel. Keep it on 16inch non run flats and you'll have a blast.
