Octavia Scout, I can lease for £200 a month or PCP for £300 (similar payment profiles and mileage). Weighing up the pros and cons.
Thoughts?
(Mods if this is the wrong thread please move)
Unless there's something in the detail of the figures (why not post them up?) that's surely a no-brainer. The lease is much cheaper.Thoughts?

That's why people need to be careful, other leasing companies do apply the full retail price of the car. Not a big deal unless applying for mortgage/other credit etc.
I think Merc Finance do this - I saw something on my credit file about high level of personal something or other - it was the car. According to the lady at HSBC anything over 25K gets their alarm bells ringing.Dog Star said:
End of May; I've my current SLK til a few days before. New one is, I suspect down south (it's a LM London plate) and I'm in Lancashire.
Nothing I can do about it now; if it arrives then all well and good, if it doesn't then I'll be saving up some cash and using a motorbike as daily transport. Every cloud etc
Just to add to the earlier post - my E class arrived on the arranged date and I think it's very lovely; it was certainly worth hanging in for the right colour and the free panoramic roof is very nice indeed.....Nothing I can do about it now; if it arrives then all well and good, if it doesn't then I'll be saving up some cash and using a motorbike as daily transport. 9 ratios and 2.0 diesel... it's either going to be amazing or awful! New E-class looks great though so I am hoping the former.
I really like it, even drove the E200 petrol which we're not getting and thought that was good too. I'm hoping I'll get to try the E43 at somepoint. I've driven the C43 and that was cracking, great engine Dog Star said:

Brilliant Blue looks really good on the E Coupe and Cabs
genuinely reckon that, on paper at least, the C/E43 will be a legendary thing.I drove the C43 and C63 back to back and thought both were excellent to drive. Even though it's a 4Matic, you can still hang the tail out. It's a peach of an engine

I'm not a massive fan of modern Mercs, but that looks brilliant. Why you would buy it in silver/white/black rather than something like that is a mystery!
Are there any hidden liabilities or issues with leasing?
I suppose if it's stolen and the insurance company don't pay out you could be hugely out of pocket - although I suspect it's unlikely for this to happen.
What about your credit file? Does the £300 a month (£6,900 over 23 months) sit on your file as a debt, or does a £30k lump sum hit your credit file as the value of the car? The latter could be an issue.

VW have only loaded the 23 monthly payments to my credit file I can see. The initial is not.Maxf said:

As previously discussed on the thread, it does vary so worth checking.VWFS only apply the rental payments to your file (23 x whatever, crucially not including the initial payment) but others have reported different finance houses applying the full invoice value.
To me this seems a little strange for an operating lease, but there you go.

Has anybody used these guys? They have Golf R (5dr) at £240 per month, £2400 up front, 8,000 miles which seems like a great deal.
How does it work in terms of options - if I want metallic paint or different wheels for example?
I used them for my Cactus (), they handled the inital paperwork brilliantly - after that they were just st at communication. I had to chase them for everything and asking the dealer for the delivery date it happened to be coming the next day! Good thing I was in How does it work in terms of options - if I want metallic paint or different wheels for example?

As for why not more, because the white and black are usually "free", and silver is a default choice!

Standard metallic paint is free of charge with MBFS. The MB colour palette isn't all that adventurous though...
But not at retail level - extra £645.That blue certainly stands out among the greys and silvers :thumb up: You say the MB colour choice is limited, I couldn't believe Audi - choice for an A6 was black, white, or a metallic shade of black or grey...!!!
This thread is incredibly frustrating!!
I'm currently running to and from work in a 10 year old, 140k mile RAV4, which I would dearly like to replace.
A lease seems to be the best idea until I load my mileage (approx. 25k per year) into the calculator... this just makes it totally uneconomical.
I'm assuming that there are no companies who don't penalise for such high mileage?
