You kind of pay for what you use in leasing as the mileage is a key determinant of resale value. You'll rarely get a very good deal in 25k pa because a two year old car with 50k miles has a limited market when you hand it back.

You'd probably do better to buy a newish high mileage car and run it for a couple of years if you want something more reliable. At least the first owner will have taken the biggest hit.

This thread is incredibly frustrating!!

I'm currently running to and from work in a 10 year old, 140k mile RAV4, which I would dearly like to replace.
A lease seems to be the best idea until I load my mileage (approx. 25k per year) into the calculator... this just makes it totally uneconomical.

I'm assuming that there are no companies who don't penalise for such high mileage?
Not really, why wouldn't they? You would be 'using' a lot more of the car.

The value of a 2yo car with 11,500 miles on it is vastly different from one with 49,950 miles on it, you've got to expect them to recoup that somewhere.

I can't find my old posts but I've shown quite a few examples of 'economical' >20k/yr lease deals.
The more you use the car, the cheaper per mileage it becomes.

I suspect what you're really saying is that buying or leasing a new car and putting 25k/yr on it is more expensive than running a second-hand car, which it is.

BTW many regular VAG cars are only 7.2ppm excess. So lease the cheap 5k/yr deal then just pay the excess at the end.

eg

https://www.contracthireandleasing.com/car-leasing...

6+23
10k
£149+VAT

20k = £5185 = 26ppm
50k = £5185 + £2160 = £7345 = 15ppm

OR

BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo Diesel Hatchback 320d M Sport 5dr

http://www.easternwesternfleetservices.co.uk/busin...

6+23
10k
£265+VAT

http://www.easternwesternfleetservices.co.uk/busin...

6+23
20k
£324+VAT

The excess is 'only' 8.5ppm +vat

That's a fair point - if you picked up a cheap Golf (there were some deals on the Match Edition recently) on a 5k deal you'd pay about £1400 on the remaining mileage per annum.

Just to add to the earlier post - my E class arrived on the arranged date and I think it's very lovely; it was certainly worth hanging in for the right colour and the free panoramic roof is very nice indeed.....

I'm not a massive fan of modern Mercs, but that looks brilliant.

Why you would buy it in silver/white/black rather than something like that is a mystery!
That's a stunner and no mistake.

Mind me asking what model and how much £££?

Lol, I wasn't asking it in that way, in no way am I surprised that it costs more to do more miles... if anything I was just expressing frustration that I can't take advantage of some of the really good deals shown on this thread...

That said, a good point raised above about excess mileage charges... whilst I wouldn't be interested in a boggo golf or whatever, I will check those figures for the cars I am interested in.

Reasonably on topic, so I thought it worth posting....in the search for the best value deal, dont lose sight of vehicle availability as one of your criteria. Apparently the popularity of the A6 deals means that "production lead times are longer than normal"- as a result it looks like the 8-10 weeks I was originally quoted will be more like 12-14 and I will probably be vehicle-less for about a month...

I've had an amazing amount of comments off people - just randommers in the street - about it. Why oh why everyone insists on buying silver or white ones eludes me.
That does look ... well, brilliant biggrin

Brilliant Blue on the E Editions and C Coupes is the business!

It's a E220d Coupe AMG Line Edition Auto with a pano roof (I shouldn't have got the roof but there was "a mistake").

3+35 15K pa £412/month (inc vat). Concept Vehicle Leasing. I suspect they're open to negotiation.

It wasn't much different to lease for 24 months however this is my 3rd leased Merc and 2 years comes up awful fast. Also in 3 years I will be debt free so want to spin it out til then.

(Spec includes 19" wheels, dual zone climate, part electric multi adjustable seats, LED light with "intelligent lighting system" (which is pretty trick), it parks itself (which I've never tried as I'm scared it'll kerb the wheels), parking sensors, COMAND (inc nav(, all sorts of internettery, Apple carplay etc etc)

That's the base price - I've paid a bit more for full maintainance (including tyres (inc punctures) and all "wear and tear" items such as wiper blades. I insure it and stick diesel in it)

People are still waiting and hoping that the original cheap introductory leases for the Golf R will be back and they just won't. But yeah there's also the people that will hold of on a good deal in hope that a better one will come along. They might do, they might not but these people will kick themselves regardless when they miss out completely. If you see a good deal then just go for it.

Interesting read about your comments on the A4. I've got one at present and there's a few things I've noticed too.
The pickup of power isn't an issue to me coming from my 1.4 122 bhp Scirocco as it's considerably better. There is a bit of lag but it was worse or at least about the same in the 'Rocco so the transition hasn't really been a problem. 1st gear is surprisingly sharp though and the traction light almost always comes on and the wheels do spin fairly easily.
The stop/start is mostly good and unobtrusive and i leave it on most times but as you said you can catch it out and it seems to happen at least once per commute to work daily. Very annoying when it does.
The stereo isn't the best. I really wasn't expecting this. It's not awful but the quality really isn't great. Probably a bit better than my Scriocco but not by much. I use my Bluetooth connected to my phone and at times it intermittently crackles and breaks up badly when playing songs through it.
I've heard about people having issues with the puddle lights and i thought mine weren't working at first but i learnt that you need to keep the lights on Auto mode on the switch. If you don't then they don't activate.
I have no quibbles with build quality at all. I think the materials and finish is brill and wouldn't change anything. Although my girlfriend has managed to scratch the brushed aluminium along the dash with a swift wack with her boots. In all fairness it was a fair thump so can;t fault Audi for that.
Economy is pretty good considering the size/weight of the car and the size of engine.
The trip computer is very good, clear, precise and is a lot more detailed than the Scirocco. I don't think it's quite needed but it's a nice addition.
Handling is surprising as i expected it to feel like a boat. It doesn't IMO. Feels quite maneuverable for a saloon but obviously not fun.
Break pedal feels fine to me. Yes it's soft but it's not sports car and same to the Scriocco really. I don't find judging my inputs difficult.
Can't fault the sat nav at all. It's extremely clear and precise. One of the best I've ever used in fact. I'm a bit dubious about some of the routes it suggests and it's re-directions but i think that could just be me.
One issue I've recently had is the drivers-side window. It's one-touch function stopped working after i tried to put the window up twice which resulted in the window going back down with pressing it. It's happened a few times now. Bit odd. I'll be taking it into the dealers if it persists.

All-in-all i'm pretty happy with it. It's a very good deal for what it is and it's not a bad car for a few years. Not really my cup of tea but it has surprised me in some areas. This is all my opinion but it's interesting to see other people's view on them.

Standard metallic paint is free of charge with MBFS. The MB colour palette isn't all that adventurous though...
But not at retail level - extra £645.

That blue certainly stands out among the greys and silvers :thumb up: You say the MB colour choice is limited, I couldn't believe Audi - choice for an A6 was black, white, or a metallic shade of black or grey...!!!
On contract hire (either business or personal) metallic is free of charge unless it's a Designo colour

Just had a call from my leasing company (LeaseplanGo) regarding the end of my 2 year Golf R deal. Apparently due to the flood of cars coming onto the market and the collapse in residuals they don't really want the cars back. So I've been offered the opportunity to keep the car INDEFINITELY for the same monthly payment and still get the advantage of free servicing, tyres and road tax. My car had only done 12k miles so was didn't really want to give it back in September and go for another similar car and pay another deposit. I'm paying £250/month for a 5 door manual with maintenance.

Has anyone else been offered this and what are your plans?

Indefinitely? Really? I think they're either about to fold or are quite incredibly stupid.

I guess trade value now would be circa £20K. So at £250/month, that's £3K for the next year to cover depreciation, interest, profit...

Does that cover stuff like brakes too? If so, sounds like a bargain!
