I would have one but the DPF puts me right off.

Short journeys and an X5 how does that work?
Buy a petrol one?

op: E70 x5s you might find insurance in London very expensive due to the theft issues; lots of insurers just decline them or really put their prices up for them because there were so many thefts so worth checking you can get it covered before you go any further and buy something!

Otherwise a great car we just bought an F15 and it is superb; relaxing, enough space not to worry about what you need to take for the wunderkind or holiday and much easier to load said child into the back. Personally I wanted a 340i but happy wife happy life etc!

Only issue I have found in London is the bum clenching width-restrictors.

Definitely go petrol sub £10k miles though!

Isn't that exactly what you want when looking for a second hand car, someone else paid for depreciation? I though you were a financial guru.

Lad I know has one and just got it back from BMW, he had to pay £2500 for some bits including the service but the total bill was 15k apparently, he said,

"Well all I can say is one of the props snapping at 80 mph doesn't do your car any good lol. It's had 2 new turbos 2 prop shafts in let and outlet manifolds dump valves you name it, it's had it "

Which models have two turbos, the diesel ? he said its an "M"

My cousin had one and that had loads of issue, I would steer clear as they get older.

though I do know a lad with a 4.8is on LPG that doesnt seem to have bankrupted him.

x5 M50d has three turbos so it can only be a M(arketing)Sport X5 35d

laugh I bought one new!

They keep going down. By all means buy one when it's getting old, but a two year old one that has already depreciated by 50% will keep losing money.

Long time lurker here.I've just bought a plug-in hybrid 4.0e which travels up to 19 miles on electric only,& has a petrol engine for longer trips;fuel economy is brilliant, although that is compared to the previous car which was an E61 M5! I find it ideal for short urban journeys.

He has a bit of a penchant for embellishment, despite having had some nice cars.

Wasn't any specific mention of being a diesel, just that it was a M and had two turbo's......?

I bought a 2007 4.8i last year. Far and away the best car I've owned. And on the motorway, MPG's not a lot worse than the diesel.. Also use it for runs up to the Highlands. 2 tanks of petrol from Kent. Not too bad.
Pah, I did Newbury to Oban on one tank of fuel. So ner.

Hi all,
I've spent the last six years running a 2006 X5 3.0d which after 176k is still in fantastic condition. I'm wondering about transplanting one of the newer 40d engines when mine eventually goes pop, any thoughts or ideas on this.
Look forward to your responses.
