Love the bit about "making your house look harder to break into than your neighbour's".http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Now imagining constantly escalating levels of protection being applied by two neighbours who have been given the same advice, until they're both living in nuclear bunkers.
A good deal from VW if you like this sort of thing! It has a Subwoofer!!

A few of my top-tips.....
- go for "in stock"; you may not get your colour of first choice or indeed spec but the deals tend to be better. A lot of these ones with big lead times are risky and the car might not even turn up (see Golf R deals passim)
- insure EVERYTHING
- on the other hand be careful with these third party policies that cover dings and scratches. If the repairs aren't good enough you'll have to pay again. They often won't cover "flat" areas (bonnets, boot lids).
- similarly wheel insurance; if you have something like Mercedes diamond cut jobbies then they won't cover them. Don't bother.
- if you do scuff your alloys my personal belief is that you should just give the car back and see what happens; you may not get charged (I've had a few surprise let offs) and if they are the aforementioned diamond cut alloys then Mercedes charge 85 quid a wheel (and I haggled them down). If you can get a diamond cut wheel refurbed for less than 85 quid that you can guarantee will pass the inspection standards and is also worth your time and effort to sort then fair enough. The chap from BCA who inspected my last car was telling me he sees a lot of cars coming back with the wheels all shiny and refurbed, but not correct. So not only did the hirer spend time and money getting them done, they'd get billed again. I just give the car back.
- contract length: IME 2 years works well because you can get away with no new tyres (if you're on a longer contract you might need a set for the driven wheels) and nothing but a minor service (couple of hundred quid on a Merc at a main dealer). Top tip for the first service - leave it as long as you can past the service date/computer advisory. This gives you that extra month and thousand miles at the end of the lease so you don't need to get the expensive second service done. (I fell into this trap on my first lease where I would be paying for a massive service and about a month later giving the car back. I early terminated it, it was cheaper).

That looks like a good deal at £6527.62, something like 22% of £29300 P11D value.
They've also got the Leon with the same engine for £1 a month less:
https://www.dsgauto.com/special/car-leasing/busine...
but that works out at about 26% due to being cheaper to buy in the first place.
Looks like they've got a few decent offers on the list:

Good tips, even my lease broker said never go for a 4 year deal and if you did, get maintenance on it. A friend once had his A5 Cab leak oil all the time, 3yrs 11 months, into 4 yr lease, no warranty support and after loads of haggling with Audi they repaired it FOC.- go for "in stock"; you may not get your colour of first choice or indeed spec but the deals tend to be better. What's the idea around hitting the 25% value mark?

My understanding is that depreciation on new vehicles over a 3 year period of use is, what, 40-65% unless you buy something rare and desirable and instantly-appreciating (911 R) or something that is a luxury item and thus a vast price to begin with (Bentley Arnage or similar). (Guessing now!)So, if you can pay less to lease a car over two years than the depreciation would cost you, you are technically 'quids in' if you compare the lease cost to buying a new car and then selling it after two years.
My understanding is that 25% seems to feel about right for likely depreciation over two years (the outlying cases above excepted) so aim to get a lease for less than that and the lease will be cheaper than buying.
Whether you are happy paying out £5k+ over two years for something you never own... that's a different discussion!
(*awaits correction by those with far more experience than him*)

Anyway-just wanted to add that I think published depreciation is cobblers. See link above from Burtey, £48k list, £40k cash via broker on new R line Touareg. Stolen after 4 months. Pay out £30,500. Thats 25% in a heart beat. I know plenty of people who are either a bit daft or just want to close their mind and forget the depreciation when a dealer offers them a great price against FULL RRP. Take the Touareg example. If you didn't know better you'd feel like a deal making god if you were offered retail on your trade against £48k. Wow, i didn't lose much at all. In many cases the depreciation has only been deferred until one day that £40k buy is worthless due to funding costs and the high price.

Could anyone tell me what the normal time for processing an application is? Worried I might be being strung along by TFSVL. The application was sent Thursday morning and have now been told to 'Most likely Monday' for a decision. Finance is coming from Mercedes.
Is this normal ?
Yes this is quite normal it depends how busy the funders areIs this normal ?

Although I've got DSG, it only put the price up £6 a month surprisingly.
2 weeks to go!
Looking to lease a run around, this seems like a decent deal. Spoke with them earlier about a DSG car and they actually quoted me a price cheaper than what's on the website, it's a limited offer apparently.
