T=Planning on leasing my daughter a car when she turns 17 for her to pass her test in and drive for 2-3 years whilst she does her A-levels and goes off to Uni (hopefully). Looking for an auto as IMHO manual gearboxes will be consigned to the history books over the next 5 years and learning in an auto is both easier and safer.

Found this whilst trawling CH&L

https://www.contracthireandleasing.com/car-leasing...

Smart ForFour 1.0 Prime Premium Plus auto.

Comes with all the kit they do and I've just had a quote for < £500 a year fully comp to insure it in her name, with a provisional license, with me as a named driver.

£1000, and 35 x £120 inc VAT, 8K miles pa. So basically £5k over 3 years and 24k miles.
No offence but if your daughter can't drive a manual safely she shouldn't be driving at all. (As someone who passed their test last month)

Being able to change gears in a manual is only a fraction of the skills required to drive effectively and the vast majority of the skills needed for safe driving will be possessed by someone who has passed the test in an automatic.

There's a reason they let people take an auto-only test you know. But I guess you know best. spin

Out of interest has anybody given a car back early to VW? If so what are the charges?
What are you thinking of sending back? I would consider taking it over depending on the terms. Feel free to PM me with details.
VWFS don't let private individuals take over leases, only companies.
I've got a Golf R on 10,000 miles pa, £180pm (inc VAT) however I'm currently on 19,000 with 5 months to go. At 20,000 miles it'll need a service (and potentially 2 new front tyres) which all in will be circa £400. Plus the excess mileage I'll owe at the end of the lease will also be around another £400. I'm thinking of 'cutting my loses early if it makes financial sense to do so.

I'd be happy to let someone take it on for the last 5 months if it was possible however it wouldn't be a very good on their end for the reasons above.

Yes I think you might be right. I would have taken it for 5 months if it wasn't for mileage etc.

Slightly off topic, but got my white Tiguan SE Nav delivered yesterday.
Leased via G2L. Ordered on 30th Sept (final call for Q3 offers) all took exactly 20 days... But it was a stock car.

I've just ordered a Skoda Octavia vRS 2.0 Tdi via Horton Skoda in Lincoln:

£642.40 initial (you pay double initially then get 50% cash back)
£220.80 monthly

£5720.80 or £238 per month amortised

Excess mileage is 8.4ppm
Did they have stock cars?

Thanks

Good on them I say

Hope they roll it out across the world with similar success

Easy to underestimate the effort needed to create, manage & sell such a product

Agreed. I wish the 'Power Search' tool was better though. Needs to add 1 month as an initial payment search, plus mileage too.
