IIRC you need to have had the car for 6months before you can call to extend the mileage allowance.
8ppm is pretty cheap anyway - but no harm in calling to see if it's cheaper to extend than pay the excess at the end.

We have a Polo GTI and its awesome. Fiesta was slightly better to drive but felt slower and was a terrible place to sit - the interior was awful.
Whats most fun in the twisties isnt really relevant in the majority of day to day driving (just my opinion of course!)
I've sat in the ST-Line Fiestas in the showroom and thought the interior looked decent (and the seats were great for lower back support, which is a very rare thing) - but then all the cars in my household are at least 20 years old and I have zero experience with the 'premium' brands, so I may well have different expectations to anyone who has run newer cars.

Personal expectations are definitely personal! lol

Hyundai Santa Fe Premium for 9+23 at £239.99 inc VAT for 5,000 miles p.a.Seems like a lot of car for the money.
Polo GTI is nice, but for me the main problem is it's not a Golf. I know the fiesta isn't either, but I think it's the nicest looking car in it's class (IMO).

I'm fed up of waiting for a Golf R deal from 2015 and/or am being sensible and trying to save money for boring things like a house, so I'm ordering a Fiesta ST3 (I know, outgoing model rolleyes )

£185.94 3+35
£198 fee

Includes style pack. That'll do me and it will be a massive upgrade from a 14 year old mr2 which cost £670 for an mot this year.
I'm not sure spending two and a half grand a year to save 700 quid on an MOT is, strictly speaking, saving money wink but that's a whole other discussion tongue out lol

evo magazine says the Polo GTi is nowhere near as fun a steer as the Fiesta, seemingly inert and just more tied down all the time, so I think it's horses for courses - the badge will no doubt sell a lot of them!
I agree, that's the man maths talking there but what I meant was instead of a Cupra 300 or Jaguar XE R Sport (which I was considering) it's a lot cheaper wink And the fact my better half knows I was looking at those higher price cars and went for something cheaper could always come in handy, you've got to chose your battles.

Nationwide Vehicle Contracts. Would normally go with the 24 months but working out the total cost on the lease the third year amortises to about £115 a month more (or there abouts).

Regarding the couple of posts about the interior; I don't think it's too bad. It's not premium and is not really up the standards of the other hot hatches, but then the Fiesta is (apparently) the best to drive and the cheapest. The infotainment system is old school though, but you can't have everything. And similar to another poster I haven't had experience of premium brands, or even VAG group, and it will still be an upgrade over my 14 year old car I have now. Air con is the only 'luxury' I have in that!

Final point - I do not like the upcoming Fiesta ST. The interior looks nicer, but the car looks terrible IMO.

. . . does anyone know how easy it is to phone Arval/VWFS and get them to extend the mileage on a contract?
I got into our Tiguan on a 5,000 miles p.a. deal. They wrote to me just after halfway through to check what the mileage was - struck me as standard process - and when I declared it they wrote again to say they expected me to be over my limit - I already was over the total miles for the whole 2 years! - and would I like a quote to adjust.

I reckon the monthly they came back with and that I accepted means I'll pay half what the excess mileage charge would have been if I'd carried on without changing it.

I'm in two minds whether to go for a 10K miles deal on the next car and save that little bit of faff or just get into a 5k miles deal again and adjust when required. I guess it will be down to what deals are out there. A new shape Tig SE Nav, for instance, is reasonable on 10k miles p.a. so it just makes sense to do that I think.

Contract hire and leasing throws up a few deals a bit cheaper than this, but if they are better or not would depend on if you needed 10k miles rather than 8,and/or the fees added to that quote

Quite tempted by a Golf R as an upgrade to my wife's GTD. In the deals above for a 5 door DSG is about £22 a month more, is it worth the cash. Current car is a manual but have had plenty of autos in the past so can drive either. Think I noticed at maybe the new DSG is a bit more economical than the manual which might help to close some of the financial gap.

The DSG box is just about the best semi-auto on the market. Very fast changes, smooth up or down, and instantly-responsive paddles. Fantastic bit of kit. You will never go back to manual for a weekday car.

I've currently got a GTD and I'm going to replace it with a Golf R. I'm fed up with the diesel sound and want to return to petrol. Currently waiting for a quote on a 6+23 with 8k miles for a Golf R Estate @ £312/month from Applied Leasing. These deals don't go live until 1st April.
