BoxSter Like all cars, they have issues. The particular issue on the water-cooled Porks is, at least, well documented and possible to guard against (if you want to spend the money).
There are ways of mitigating it - early cars are less prone, the smaller the engine the less likely it is, and if a car has already done north of 100k miles on the same engine and seal, then it's (probably) safe to say it's ok.
ANY high end car that can now be had for the price of a good weekend away has a huge potential Bork Factor, at this price point it's all about it's previous owners, did they lavish time and money on it, or run it on a shoestring, if the last 2 owners did this then the Bork ratio increase exponentially.
Any major failure on a car that would retail at £40k in todays prices isn't going to be cheap to run if you want the car in A1 condition and all the toys working, and at the age they are a whole host of things are going to be reaching the end of their expected life.
