We have a 100 remapped to 140 by a Superchips Bluefin, will do 50 on a decent run but mostly, on shorter runs it averages 35.
That's horrendous, I can get 38mpg on a run and 25-28mpg around town in a 370bhp (ish) remapped Golf R eek

I think, to be fair it is skewed by my wifes usage of it, she drives just under a mile to work when she drives (carrying stuff/raining) and by and large other journeys of less than five mile so its always on warm up, then she has that one gear lower than she should be thing (mentioning it, even though it is excruitiating is foolhardy), and she does use the performance. I can get much better figures from it but dont expect much more than fifty I would say.

I have a 2015 ST fiesta from new, I've done 19000 in 18 months, i commute 26 miles each way a day on the motorway and into city centre Manchester each day. I get about 36 mpg. Other half drove it for a while and got 38 mpg.

She had a 2014 1.0 125 zetec s fiesta that's just gone back at the end of the lease. That averaged 46mpg, mixture of motorway and B road.

I think the ST is worth the extra cash, though the 1.0 is a fun car, engine sounds great when you give it some.

She now has a 500 abarth esseesse and averages 39mpg.

Hope that helps

ST215 here, on 30k.

Does 48mpg on a run. About 23mpg driven pretty hard.

Mines averaging 31mpg at the moment, but it's usually short cold runs or driven fairly quick.

I think if i can get 33-35 giving it beans often with some steady cruising aswell i will be happy.

Is 23 literally flooring it, harsh braking etc, like driving in the country for half an hour hard?

I wouldnt say the St was that stressed, 180bhp from a 1.6t isnt really pushing it that hard.
Definitely not, given the Peugeot and Renault counterparts produce in excess of 200bhp
Citroen used a 1.6 for their DS3 racing and it was fking pants, loads of them failed.

But the Peugeot one seems fine - pretty sure the 308GTI and RCZ-R are about 270bhp too eek

35mpg average should be fairly easy if you have a decent commute. It's massively more economical when warm.

23 is driving pretty hard but not up into licence losing territory. I've yet to track it so couldn't tell you what balls out driving would get you.

I (very roughly) worked it out over a couple of tanks and it seemed to be pretty close, maybe within 1-2mpg.

I bought it simply because I wanted a cheap economical car when I need it, and a fun toy when I want it. I'm really happy with mine. I'd whole-heartedly recommend one.

The difference between 31mpg and 33mpg over a year is probably worth about the same as a pint of beer so I wouldn't worry too much about 1mpg here or there. Go test one, if you like it buy it.

Eh? Isn't that the same engine used in both the Citroen and Peugeot?

We could probably be talking about a bacon and egg sarnie or playing monopoly and somebody will bring a Golf R into the conversation....

I've had my 15 plate ST since new and it averages 31 according to the dash.

My journeys are all short in purely stop start traffic.

It's interesting to see the variation in people's MPG here.

I have a stock ST-3 (had it since June 16). Averaging 38MPG most days (I commute on some nice twisty B-roads, but travelling at sensible speeds). Motorway runs I get around 45, sometimes higher. When I have got the chance to gun it and drive it hard, I've yet to see MPG dip below 35.

What has surprised me the most is just how much fun the ST is to drive at normal speeds - you don't need to be ragging it to get any enjoyment out of the car. That being said, it certainly is brilliant when you do decide to gun it...

My st3 has averaged approx 37 mpg from new, it's 9 months old now and has covered about 5000 miles

I've managed to get upto 60 mpg on a gentle run and never gone below 30 mpg even on a spirited drive.

This is of course according to the trip computer so probably a bit less in reality.

I bought a fiesta st for a 100 mile round trip commute. Tbh it's too hard for that kind of commute, especially with state of our motorways.

However the seats are very comfortable, it's quiet at motorway speeds and will 35 mpg all day if not being careful.

So im torn between a fiesta st or a swift sport, i know they are polar opposites but, the swift sport is 4000 cheaper at 2 years old with the same mileage, its japanese and N/A so if it goes wrong its cheap to fix, it just doesent sound like its quick at all.

But for the price difference if its good it might make more sense for me to get that, ive heard if you floor the swift you still get 30+ mpg where as if you floor the fiesta you get 20ish, so i would have to be more careful in the fiesta.

What do people think.

Test drive?

The Swift has a more comfortable ride than the Fiesta ST, the ST has more power with little detriment to fuel economy (probably just a bit worse around town).
The Swift is reckoned to be faster than the quoted figures, but the Fiesta is in a different league for torque. The ride was a show stopper for me, hence buying the Swift. I find it fast enough.

What mpg do you get in the swift giving it beans?

You're probably asking the wrong person - I'm not the last of the late brakers. I've just deliberately driven a tankful (mixed driving) with no regard to fuel economy and got 39 mpg. My worst is 37 mpg, my best is 46 mpg, and my average since I bought the car is 40.5 mpg, all measured brim to brim. I'd imagine a track day would see it down around/below 20 mpg, but otherwise I think you'd have to drive like a tool to get below 30 mpg.

There are some real world figures on Fuelly & Honest John RealMPG
Clearly the Fiesta ST is ~50% more powerful* than the SSS, which means that it can burn fuel ~50% faster, but that doesn't necessarily imply worse fuel consumption in normal driving conditions. The Fuelly figures would seem to suggest ~3 mpg difference between ST & SSS.

  • In 3rd and higher gears - the boost is restricted in 1st and 2nd.
