Worst case I'm happy to lose deposit. They can't force me to sign financial agreement or take the car?
As you go through life, my son, you will find that generally speaking, in law, people can't force you to do things.

What they can do is to take you to court and get financial compensation for the loss that they have suffered.

Audi - tick
Large SUV - tick
Finance - tick
A remarkable amount per month - tick

Are we sure this isn't a bit of trolling to get some of the more "finance adverse" PHers foaming at the mouth?

New poster, must be trolling as it's quite difficult to be that stupid (not know what your income v's outgoings are)

Just checked and my local Aston dealer have an offer on 2017MY Vanquish. £65k down and £799 a month. The car lists at £198k....

Admittedly, the Aston will tank in value but thats the sort of car I would want if I were to be paying £700+ a month!

I should be surprised to read this thread but unfortunately I am not - there are people actually this stupid in life.
Do you ever, in any thread, have anything nice to say?

Yes.

However, do you not think in this case warrants my comment? How thick do you need to be to not know if you can afford 700pcm on a lease?

No, not really, nor do half the other posters who are obviously just being dicks for the sake of it.

I'm not sure about you but I earn a fair chunk, most things I just assume I can afford.
But sometimes it's only when you have seriously thought or already begun to engage in financial choices that you then take a more in depth look at your finances and think, errr, hang on.......

Or, perhaps, the OP realised later on in the day, that £700 a month for a used Audi was a rip off! And that while caught up in the excitement of buying a new car that he failed to take full accounts of his finances.

Or, something came up over the weekend, maybe partner had work issues, or he did, or found she was pregnant, or any number of reasons, why, suddenly, you don't have £700 a month to spend anymore.

I think we are all guilty at some point of making a rash decision or not fully thinking through something. Doesn't mean you can be a to everyone all of the time.

No, I don't 'just assume' I can afford things. I do some basic sums for items which cost more.

Before paying the deposit, I did advise the sales guy that I need to go away and think about it, he continued to make various offers and then his manager also joined in. They used good sales tactics and roped me in. At the point of paying I did think £700 would be managable, but on the weekend doing my sums at home I realised it was a rip off to pay £5000 initial payment and then £708pm x 48. That would have been a total of £38,984. Then after 4 years to keep the car I would have to pay a balloon payment of around £23k. Thats just under £62k for a used Q7 thats on the forecourt for £48k.

If you do decide on another car in the future, I'd use this site as a starting point (PCH not PCP)

I have called them at 9:15am and advised the same sales guy that Im not going ahead with the sale as £700 is not affordable. I also reminded him the vehicle was not ordered or modified for me, it was a used vehicle and therefore I am requested my full deposit back. He said nothing will be deducted from my deposit and he needs to speak to his manager and will call me back. So far no call back.

Good luck getting your deposit fully returned should be ok.

Interesting to see these figures, I am not into leasing and when you see eye watering numbers like that I wonder why anyone would sign up for this sort of costs?

That's a result, I'm sure they will.

I would suggest also writing an E-mail to the salesman if you have their E-mail address, just confirming this.
Then if not heard back by say, 3pm, call them again.

Extremely helpful for someone looking for advice!

I think you do it to make yourself feel better - just like a response to a comment I made in another thread about used car values settling, is there something you need to prove to everyone.

Sadly this is the way of this place now - genuine advice lost on ego.

Sorry forgot to add, straight after the phone call I sent an email directly to the salesman. I will also be sending it in writing via recorded delivery, just trying to make sure I can cover all angles.

I wouldn't worry about writing for recorded delivery bud.
Just leave it with the phone call and E-mail for now.

See what they say, I'm sure it will be fine.
