As the topic suggests, I found motoring happiness in my 997.1 turbo. It is truly a wonderful thing for everyday usage and while it can pootle in traffic, it can certainly go when required.

This was all good with one child in a forward facing car seat with no hobbies... you see where this is going. We now have child two in a backward facing car seat and child one loves camping and exploring the outdoors with me, which is brilliant... except for my 911 turbo, which now suddenly is a real compromise (at least it isn't depreciating)

So, what cars represent a good level of badge snobbery, space for two kids in car seats, a long weekend's worth of camping gear and can still give me the need for speed fix on demand... and won't depreciate like a led balloon? I am at a bit of a loss

Budget, probably 60-70k

I started looking at things like a defender or 4 door Wrangler to truly embrace the outdoor spirits and go overlanding and what have you, but these things feel like a huge compromise for what they are so now I think I am on the luxury end of life - I really like gadgets and leather and stuff

Yep, or a Cayenne Turbo if you need more room.

The Cayenne Turbo is extremely capable and fast, but dull as hell.

Should have said, wife drives a Cayenne D and while it is nice, I wouldn't want a faster version of the same thing. I drove the D S with all 600+ lb/ft of torque and it was scary controlling that amount of elevated mass under acceleration. Macan is interesting, I like the petrol S but couldn't get one due to UK delivery issues, Turbo is a good call. RS6 looks great and by all accounts is great, I will check one out. Audi has limited brand snobbery however and just being truthful, it's a factor.

Would the new C63S be worth a look?

RS6 with a stage 1 remap. Unlikely to hold value like a 911T, however.

If you're considering a Panamera then an Aston Martin Rapide is worth a look too.

My first thought when I read the original post was "Macan Turbo".

But as I was beaten to it by about a thousand people, I'll just add it here as "another vote for the Macan". smile

Then you should be able to keep your 911. On the days you need a big car with the capacity to hold kids, tents etc take the wife's car. All other days you have a 911 Turbo to provide all the driving pleasure none of the other cars you are considering will get close to.

That, or I'm missing something.

Is it going to be easier to work backwards from the acceptable brands?

What are you after? Any likelihood of actually taking an SUV any more "outdoor" than a bit of smooth grass?

XJ R or wait for F-Pace SVR? FFRR or RRS supercharged?

Problem with keeping the 911 is that a) she won't drive it and b) there have been multiple occasions when child a is with wife and child b is at home with me and I can't go out bc I can't get her car seat in the 911. Regrettably, it has to go, I am. It the sort who can stand being dependent on the movements of others :-)

What is an FFRR or RRS?

FFRR is a "Full Fat Range Rover". Been in PH parlance since the Sport appeared on the scene. RRS is the Range Rover Sport.

Might be coming across as obstructive here (In a hold on to that 911 Turbo sort of way) but how about a 3rd car? A cheaper well used C or E Class or 3 or 5 Series Estates all spring to mind as facilitators of Le camping (or not so cheap not so well used budget permitting) and u get to keep the 911 as fun car.

Alfa Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Same bi-turbo 2.9-litre V6 petrol engine, shared with the Giulia Quadrifoglio and therefore producing 503bhp and 443lb ft?

Monsters the fastest Macan on paper.
