If you're looking for the newest, well spec''d barge for your money, take a look at the Infiniti M class saloon. 12k will get you a 12 plate or possibly newer M37 or M35 hybrid. The M35h in particular is a proper barge on sensible 18 inch wheels with double glazing, ventilated seats, radar cruise, heated steering wheel, lovely Bose stereo with speakers everywhere (including the driver and passenger seats ) cornering LED headlights, electric blinds and every other gadget you can imagine as standard. The hybrid motors are good for over 360hp, I think it's still the fastest accelerating hybrid saloon for sale today but it's also a very comfortable mile muncher that will return 32 plus mpg and has sensible VED cost.

Indeed not and I would never dissuade anyone from buying one just go in with their eyes open and know what to look for. Same can be said of just about any car maker though although jaguar have always been very good at making great cars, badly.
It probably won't be of much consolation to you, but Jaguar were doing well in the reliability surveys around that time...

I never pay much attention to those. People only fill in those things if they are amazed or completed miffed. To be honest if it had been your first premium car you probably would have gushed but as it wasnt for me my expectations were much higher. It also suffered because it was in the first batch made and thats sometimes the price you pay for being the first, you end up completing the user acceptance testing for the company. I have certainly felt like that with other firsts too.

The good thing is that 8 years down the line all of the issues should have been resolved.

In the 18 months I had the car it prompted most of the recalls that were issued and there were quite a few

The bork factor from that is not from the engine which is pretty bullet proof if its got a full history. Its a top spec portfolio so the one to go for. Just be aware the centre screen and LCD instruments are a bit slow and dim witted and not the best resolution. If youre OK with that you will find a very comfortable and quiet car that is also very light so surprisingly good to drive. If you have to have a car that size and you are a keen driver it is the only one to have.
