the leaf looks like the strongest contender so far - £199 down and £199 a month for the fully loaded 30kw (140mile stated 120 real world apparently) gets me 10,000 miles pa - 249 for 20,000 - maybe £350 for 40k ?

Its a shame i don't need to drive in london every day - it'd save me even more !

Try and get an extended test drive first and do a dry run. There was a thread on here a while ago where someone tried a Leaf for a 70 mile commute. Think lights, heater/air con, stereo etc all contributed to a significant reduction in range and the range anxiety proved too much.

Also ensure you have contingency for the inevitable diversions due to motorway closures. 25 miles steady mway cruising and 25 miles Waze-ing down country lanes are very different profiles.

A Tesla 3 would be ideal, but not in the UK till 2018 earliest unfortunately.

Get a motorbike or get the train

I do a 240 mile round commute on a motorbike. I could never do that in a car with traffic etc it would be absolute dross.

I get between 50-80mpg so its costs me approx £24 a day

With the amount of morons on the road, not paying attention to anything happening around them, that sort of distance daily on a motorbike is brave... lol

It makes commuting far more tolerable that's for sure.

And thats before you factor in the weather, and the relative discomfort. Bikes are for fun not drudgery. Just imagine. Its February. Its 3C outside and raining heavy. You have a 100 mile commute to do. I wouldnt wish that on Jeremy Corbyn!

A good fairing, heated kit and the fact it will be significantly faster and cheaper than the car will all make it much more acceptable though.

Wrong waterproof oversuit & heated jacket/grips then the 100 wet miles are a breeze that's before you take into account the hold up be it the road closed oe lanes closed & you on the bike filter through saving yourself 30+ minutes of time. smile

I went to a meeting in Birmingham today on the bike my colleagues & I left at the sametime from greater London & I arrived 40 minutes before them, without the need to go all Jonny Rea to make that difference.
