Whilst changing my rear discs and pads yesterday, I turned the wheels to check for smoothness afterwards, as you do…

What I noticed and while both wheels were off the floor that the opposite wheel didn’t turn forwards or backwards while spinning one wheel.

If I have a standard LSD surely I would have expected the opposite wheel to turn in the same direction with a slight delay.

If I have a standard Diff (non LSD) I would have expected the opposite wheel to rotate in the opposite direction.

What should I expect to see guys?

Anyone see the same as me?

The Diff is an early 1992 GKN.

Does the opposite wheel turn freely enough when you try the other side? Or is it binding / brakes stuck etc.? Sounds like you've got some friction in there somewhere. With an LSD yes you'd expect the opposite wheel to turn the same way if it can

Put the car in gear to lock the diff input and try it again then, if it turns but the opposite side doesn't move (opposite direction) you've got a 0WD or 1WD car smile

Hi Ruari

Thanks for your response

The car is in the lockup, so won’t be able to check it until late next week.

Maybe there was a little friction from the new brakes… I’m going to change the Diff Oil on my next visit and will take the car for a spin to bed the new brakes in. I’ll then check the Diff function again…

Just seemed a little strange…

It drove like a scalded cat before the winter hibernation so certainly not a 0WD thumbup

Its normal like Carsy said biggrin spinning the prop instead is the path of least resistance, do the same in gear engine off and you will get the result you expect wink
