280i - Running a new fuel line - where?
Discussion
I'm going the have to replace at least the flow fuel line. The existing rubber line is zip-tied to the lower rail of the centre chassis spine, so it's quite near the left hand exhaust pipe. I'm thinking of running a new copper pipe down the left out-rigger and then into rubber once the line needs to bend into the engine bay. Another option is to follow the route of the existing fuel pipe, but continue the copper line all the way to the front of the engine bay and then bring it up underneath the fuel distributor making the final connection with rubber. Any thoughts on which route would be best?
I decided to run mine down the LH sill to prevent heat soak and fuel vaporisation but I did use insulation down the transmission tunnel so there would have been more risk of vaporisation. The down side is the pipes are more at risk of damage under the sill.
I was going to run the pipe in Kunifer under the sill and then join it as you say to rubber hose at each end. After some deliberation I ran the full run in steel braided hose. The advantage being that there are less joints.
Kunifer is harder to work with but once it's fitted you won't have to touch it again. Cheers Steve
