The f10 is a big old barge. Feels even more bargey than an e39. Disappointing car imo.

You've owned / driven one?

It makes sense to me go for it, or another alternative would be the Mondeo with the Ecoboost engine.

Or a nice E350

I think I'd prefer the 2.5t version of the Mondeo. I want something interesting. The Merc does nothing for me.

Probably lack of sound deadening vs modern cars?

I agree the 2.5t is the more interesting option but finding one is bloody hard.

I am sure there is one out there.

Shortlist at the moment seems to be getting longer!

this is one of those threads where the OP doesn't want alternatives, they don't even want opinions, they want validation & conformation.

Worst "i want a VXR and i am going to buy one" thread, ever!

330i?

1. Cheap so won't lose much

2. 258bhp so not slow

3. Hopefully refined enough for your hearing

4. You obviously like Beemers and this is one :-)

5. It's not a Vauxhall.

Right on all counts, other than the fact that I stated that my shortlist is less short than the start but crack on. rolleyes

Rather than buying a whole new car, why not just buy some earplugs??

You can get some that are -32dB, which makes a massive difference.

The Vectra VXR is pretty underrated in my opinion. I drove one when I had an Alpina B10 V8 (not quite an M5 I know) and it certainly didn't disappoint me. It felt decently torquey and pulled well. Handling was good too, nothing like what Clarkson made it out to be on Top Gear.

Driven. I wouldn't buy a car that I didn't like.

I also feel noise. It's hard to explain TBH.

This is true, and I'd need to drive one first, there is nothing to say that I would like one.

My list at the moment is:

Vectra VXR
Focus ST
Mondeo 2.5t

Up for more suggestions

Out of that list definitely the Focus.
