Huracan Performante clocks 6min 52sec 'ring lap

Faster than an Aventador SV, faster even than a Porsche 918 Spyder and here's how

That Lamborghini had bagged a stellar Nordschleife lap in the Huracan Performante it's going to unveil at Geneva was an open secret. Now we know how stellar - 6min 52.01sec.

By any stretch that is a fast lap - faster than the Aventador SV's 6min 59sec, faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder's 6min 57sec. Heck, it's only four seconds off the pace of a V8-powered Radical weighing a fraction less and fully pushing the boundaries of what anyone could define as 'road legal'.

How has it achieved this time? We don't know yet, beyond a quick glimpse at the Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva branded active aero, which has moveable channels in the front splitter and in the bodywork in front of the fixed rear wing that can bleed air to reduce drag at high speeds while letting the downforce help where it matters in the corners.

More on the car when we know it, for now appreciate the talents of Marco Mapelli and his willingness to prove that 'old fashioned' supercars with high-revving, big capacity naturally-aspirated engines are more than a match for any fangled hybrid hypercar. His SV lap was the stuff of legend, this one on the Huracan demonstrates both he and Lamborghini really mean business.

918 did a 7.57? Typo!

Could someone here with the ability highlight where on the lap he could have made up 0.02 of a second please.

Time for journalists to start reevaluating their view of Lamborghini as a poser's car driving

Lambo has simply battered Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren, and it is now the only supercar maker with 2 roadcars below the 7min Nurb mark.

And keep in mind:

Porsche 918 = £600k to £1.2m...
Lambo HP = £250-300k...

The Huracan has destroyed a million-dollar car.

Does anyone know who much impact the reprofiling of the Flugplatz section and the removal of the bump has?

what a thing...

that's what you get when you aren't designing cars to look good on the cover of autocar.

what i mean by that is because it doesn't 'do' smoky burnuts allows the test driver (who has massive plums by the way...) to aim at the apex and bury the throttle early and let the understeer take him to the exit curb wthout worrying that the rear tyres are about to flare up and fire him over the armco. it's all very unspectacular (you know what i mean) but ruthlessly efficient. as long as he used a smooth initial steering input, the car would respond faithfully and reliably every time. Nothing to do with marketing bks about 'moveable flaps'

some of the places he was burying the throttle were making me wince. top effort. in a ferrari, he would have been feathering all over the show...

I'd love to be that relaxed behind the wheel of something that fast at the limit, that's amazing confidence.

Mightily impressive without turbos and hybrid power. Less scope for 'optimisation' with a naturally aspirated engine.

I don't like the whole ring lap thing, but that is one seriously impressive lap.

Just watched the lap-incredible pace. I reckon they've tailored the gear ratios for the lap-it's incredibly short geared with 7th looking to be an overdrive.

I'm more interested to see short lap times. Std car is very quick on track I'd like to see what this could do!
Well done Lamborghini!

Hadn't noticed that! Blimey.

Could've gone a bit quicker if they'd started a with less fuel!

Really do have to praise Lamborghini for sticking to N/A screamers. They simply sound amazing.

Im guessing this is a full carbon fiber bodied car, on part metal tub, race tires and 800+hp it even has a heavy roll cage and can go that fast on a video... wow... Time for me to get my Tricycle out, fit a go pro, get some editing software, take the stabilisers off ( cuz i have race technology! ) and do a 4min lap!

Ill post the proof so its official rolleyes

Fantastic lap. One of the nicest I've watched in a while. Car looks like it's beautifully damped with a lovely confidence inspiring balance, huge grip and some nicely judged aero with a monster of an engine. Incredibly I'd say it's one of the most credible laps I've watched.

I think a lot of these times are coming from the current generation of tyre. The Cup 2s and PZero Trofeo's are very, very close to a slick in their performance. For a road tyre to be capable of nearly 1.5G 5-10 years ago would be ludicrous.

I'm pretty confident there isn't actually much funny business here. Just a very, very well optimised track car with a decent wedge of power! Top effort.
