I'm shopping for a new car, and had pretty much decided on a Focus ST3 estate. I'm off to the local dealer to test drive one this afternoon. I had previously looked at the Octavia vRS, but was drawn towards the Focus as it's better specced as standard, and overall a couple of grand cheaper when each is specced to the standard I'd like.

Has anyone got any useful input as to which car is better?

The Focus is the better steer & just as reliable unless you need more space it would be the Focus everytime especially in ST-3 trim plus the money saved means you could take it to Mountune for a bit of non warranty breaking fettling wink

Cheers, I don't need the extra space. I suppose this post is just a sanity check before I drop £25k on a car this afternoon!

Depends on the space you need. The Octavia is bigger so leans towards practicality, while the Focus leans more towards fun!

Not sure what Spec you are after or even Engine but can I throw the SEAT Leon Estate into the equation?

For 25k, I would look at a Golf R Mk7 or C63 AMG. Faster and better badges.

Not sure it's useful but I drove both and bought the ST-3. wink I found it much more fun and engaging to drive with more toys too and my little boy loved the noise it made.

Worth checking out places like Coast2Coast Cars for target prices when negotiating biggrin

I ordered an ST3 this afternoon. I considered going secondhand (top of the list was an S4 Avant) but I wanted something that hadn't been thrashed to death, had a manufacturers warranty and had all the toys. For £25k it seems ideal, and I've wanted a fast Ford since childhood. I've now got a 2-4 month wait...

Well done mate! I couldn't quite believe you were considering anything but the Ford if I'm honest!! Pics when you get it please!

Focus. The Skoda may induce narcolepsy, it's so dull.

25k seems steep. Not checked drive the deal recently but i recon about 23k for an st3 estate would be more like it,

I spent quite a while shopping around for quotes and specced the car on DTD - whilst it was a little cheaper, there wasn't much in it. I've added virtually all the options except the driver aids. I'm paying a little less than £25k including an extra three year warranty (6 in total) with Ford Protect. I'd rather pay a little more and buy locally.

Doesn't sound too bad then. I bought one in june 2015 and saved a fortune via drive the deal. my local dealer just wasn't interested in doing a deal at all.

Of the 2 I would have gone for the Focus definitely.

I would have gone for a year old VW Golf R estate instead (I have one and its AWESOME !!), but glad you didn't go for the Skoda. Even in VRS trim it's still dull and agricultural looking.

Granted, £25k would get me in to a lot of nice cars; I was seriously considering an S4 Avant. Thing is I don't want to buy a second hand car, so the Focus should suit me fine.

Nice choice with the ST Estate. Haven't seen too many about, but came across one in the car park yesterday and thought it looked fantastic. Enjoy!

Cheers, they do seem to be a bit of a rarity. I'd looked for a nearly new one and the prices were very strong (not far off what I'm paying) for cars with 10k on the clock, lower spec and have the Sync2 rather than Sync3 ICE system.
