Really interested to see what you think. With discounts I think the M140i is a performance bargain. 3.0 litre turbocharged six, 360 lbft torque and RWD whats not to like! Exterior styling isnt to everyones taste. Must admit I prefer the look of the M240i coupe shape but its around £5k more expensive. Golf R is a very good all rounder so let us know your feedback and any comparisons.

I had an M135i and now have a Golf R.
Space in the back is much better in the Golf.

ETA, obviously you'll spot this so it's not really good advice.
My preference would be the Golf, but it depends if RWD is a must over some other factors. Both very, very good cars at that price.

Does anyone know why the 2series is that much more expensive? Surely it can't cost any/much more to produce?

Car pricing is not based on cost+ but based on what people will pay for things.

Target through Tony (TRL) is around 21-22% discount on list for the M140i, although this makes him busy and so build slots are now June IIRC.

True to a point, but generally a volume manufacturer will price 2 different bodytypes of the same high quantity car at a very similar price point. It seems odd that these are so far apart.

Wild guess - they're trying to position the 2-series above the 1-series?

was going to post similar thread earlier but was busy at work... I am still waiting for a M140i to become available at my local dealer so interested in your thoughts

My choice is M140i or (another)leaf and a weekend car.

Will let you all know . Was a bit of a mission to find a dealer - kept offering me a 135 at local garages . Had the golf for 2 and half years and enjoyed it but pcp is coming to an end . Also considering the amg and s3 but tempted by the discounts on offer on the m140

have you drven them? We drove them all when my missus wanted a new car last May - She likes fast cars!!! Coming from a 2.0 tfsi A3 she surprisingly didnt like the S3 or golf (too similar to A3?). Her fave was the A45 but was £550pm even with good discounts. The M135 was well up there, but i eventually found a stupid cheap lease on a 435d convertible and she couldnt be happier. Replacing it will be v hard...

The lease deal was business users only (my OH is self employed but pays for it privately) - 435d cab msport with 10k pa, 9 + 23 @ £275 + vat = £2970 deposit, £330 per month. Total £10560 or 20.7% rrp(list £51k) Our local business bmw dealer matched the lease company so no £300 feee either! Ive not seen the coupe as cheap but the 335 saloon/tourer does occasionally

Sorry for going off topic OP!

Not for the 99.99% of driving enthusiasts that would need the payments to be less than zero before they would even consider a diesel convertible. biggrin
