I can only assume you haven't driven one then? Absolutely fantastic car to drive
I'm not saying there not, but I just don't see them ever becoming some sort of classic. I've not been to Ford fair or the like for a few years now but when I did used to go they didn't have a massive following, even amongst the Ford enthusiasts.

Mk1 MX5

200/300tdi Land rover Disco

Both cars on the proviso that tin rot hasn't set in.

Crystal ball gazing time....

In 10 to 15 years or more when petrol costs are exhorbitant, and VED and insurance are sky high for such 'flithy vehicles' will those who are able to pay them want to run sub-£1000 cars in the few unrestricted areas that will still permit IC engines?

Just a thought.

I would fill it with good puma's. Only 1.7's though. One of each colour.

With them all rotting away and being unloved, they will go up in value in the not too distant future, no doubt about it.
I completely agree RE Puma's. An old dear at the local store has one, rust free too. I've told her to hold on to it as I believe they'll go from shed status to classic at some point.

This thread is right up my street

I buy undesirable stuff at what i deem the lowest its likely to be and keep them in my shed.

I recently bought a puma 1.7 in black for all the reasons above, about 6 years ago i got a lovely sceicento sporting in red, i have an x19, a couple xjs, a w124 230, an e39 540 manual, an allegro, a z3 2.8, a citroen c6 a nice e36 325 coupe a jeep cherokee 4.0 in green and an audi quattro in pearl white. All of them bought at the right money. The on,y one i am considering selling, but it will ne impossible is my c6 as, well, i dont need it, and i think i could fill the space with something cheaper that would offer as much plessure.

I like this thread. biggrin

I'd add an early Mk1 Focus, Citroen ZX and a 306 to that list.

Well done that man! A proper nice retirement pot if nowt else....

I'd keep the C6. Bet they'll be worth a mint in decades to come (old school French, sold in low numbers, will become v rare.)
If you have the light cream leather which becomes a mess I know a man who can sort that smile

Like the Mk1 ST170 I suggested in my original post? redcard HAHA! Great minds think alike though, I think the original Focus MUST be destined for classic status (as I do the Puma, like others have said)

In my defence the ST170 didn't come out until the facelift, so we should just go ahead and get one of each! hehe

Yes I hope so, great looking car even now and I'm amazed at how many are still going.

When you sell them you can advertise them as 'Barn finds'.

Seriously though, cars benefit from being used, parked in a damp barn for 5 or more years they'll only be fit for scrap.

If they are scrap when they go in and the barn is very damp, you may have a point, otherwise, nah..... None of mine have deteriorated many of them have sat for a good few years without being touched. If they are put away clean and dry and ere is air circulating, its mice that cause the pain, not rot in my experience.

Some good suggestions in here !

Focus ST for sure .. I very recently had decent enough one at around a grand. Under 100k, Imperial Blue, very straight honest car with a good bit of history and a years Mot. Surprisingly interesting to drive - 2.0 VVT revs well and the 6 speed box has tight ratios to keep it singing nicely when you're on it. I even had someone remark that it must be about £3k's worth ?!

Bottom money at a grand and they will only go one way from there.

Every road legal Citroen Xantia you can get your hands on. Also, carefully bought MB190s but you may be too late

There seems to be this perception that all you need to do is park up a few end of life cars in a barn that are most likely already past their best at sub £1k, shut the doors, go back in 10/20 years time, all without costing you a penny, and you will have your pension sorted.

hehe

Exactly. You're barking mad or simply kidding yourself on if you think there's any significant profit in this idea if you plan on maintaining the cars or even getting them to a state where they command top money.

I bought a clean, unmodified, 205gti 4 years ago for £1k exactly. I've spent thousands on the thing since. Realistically its worth maybe £3k - £4k. Yes, you see them advertised for silly money and the odd freak, low miler sells but its not reflective of the actual market.

By all means fill a barn with such cars but do so to use them. Its certainly not a retirement plan unless you plan on living on very little.

Another fan of the thread here. Good luck in the hunt.

I bought a VTR as a fun daily for £750 two and a half years ago. 40k miles later I'm still smiling. Great fun outhandling silly-priced new stuff on roundabouts.

Have previous with Pumas too, albeit 1.4s for the cheaper insuramce.

Also means when I get the toy out, it feels special. Nothing worse than the magic going out of a special car cos you use it daily.
